About this item

  • Constructed of industrial grade brass, this valve is corrosion resistant, more conducive for welding, optimal for higher temperature projects, and can be used with gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene oil, natural gas, air etc. Due to the chemical composition of brass, this valve should NOT be used with projects involving drinking water or other water projects.
  • This valve was manufactured with a VITON seal. VITON is the most durable and high performance rubber material with the ability to resist high temperatures and corrosive chemicals and other fluids like gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, and lubricants.
  • This highly responsive valve will open and close in less than 1 second when actuated; meaning it will open or close the flow instantaneously when energized or de-energized. Also, our U.S. SOLID engineers have determined that the life cycle of this valve is well over a million cycles with proper operating conditions and maintenance.
  • PLEASE NOTE: This valve is NOT a continuous duty valve and should NOT be in continuous use for more than 8 hours in a single cycle; to do so will shorten the life of the valve and may cause the core of the valve to burn out. If you need a continuous duty valve for your project please search for our U.S. SOLID Motorized Ball Valves.
  • As with all U.S. SOLID products, this valve comes with a ONE YEAR WARRANTY. If the valve does become defective within the first year of purchase, U.S. SOLID will gladly replace it.

Product Description

U.S. Solid 1" 110V AC Normally Closed Solenoid Valve, VITON gasket, Solid Brass

1

The U.S. Solid electric solenoid valve features a durable brass body, suitable for outdoor but not underwater use. It's favored by customers for DIY projects, moderate temperature and chemical applications, as well as for controlling flow in irrigation, reverse osmosis, and motorcycle systems.

Direction of the Flow

Most U.S. Solid Valves are UNIDIRECTIONAL

Make a note of the arrow on your valve. Most U.S. Solid valves are unidirectional. This means they are intended to flow in one direction only, in the direction of the arrow. If connected in opposite directions, the valve will not actuate properly (will not close for Normally Closed valves). Additionally, be sure the medium passing through is filtered. If not, particles will cling to the gasket over time, which can cause it to not seal properly.

THREADING

U.S. Solid Valves follow National Standards for pipe thread. We suggest the use of Teflon tape to ensure the seal of the NPT threading. The tapered male and female thread form angled surfaces that with increased torque squeeze the Teflon tape resulting in a tight seal.

OVERHEATING

These valves should be energized for less than 8 hours. While most do not have more than 18W of power, the coils are in a contained area and can burn out if energized for too long. We suggest a computer fan to keep the coil cool if necessary to energize continuously for extended periods.

POLARITY

  • For valves with 2 wires, the valve will actuate regardless of which terminal each wire is connected to (+ or -). Some units include a ground wire. Open up the connector and look for the ground symbol (as shown in the corner).
  • For valves with a ground wire, please be sure to ground the valve.

GASOLINE and PRESSURE WARNING

  • NBR gaskets should not be used with gasoline, kerosene, or other petroleum products. If your valve requires contact with these substances, opt for one with a VITON gasket.
  • All solenoid valves need some pressure to actuate. This is especially true of pilot or indirectly operated valves.

Exactly what I needed to repair a sprinkler system. Great quality, great price, and fast shipping! I don’t know how they can sell these for this price.

I used this to replace an irrigation grade solenoid on an aeration tank jet pump. I could not find an exact replacement so thought I would give this a try. It’s an exposed outdoor application but you can easily seal this solenoid from the elements by using some silicon sealant around the thin openings of the coil cover and the opening for the wiring. It’s a very solid unit, much more sturdy than the pvc unit it replaced. Very pleased!

I don't generally like to write a review so soon after purchase, so I may update this with time. This solenoid valve provides acceptable flow for filling a water tank while using 14 watts of electricity to hold the valve open. After a couple weeks of use, it seems reliable and sturdy.I am using it to replace an actuated ball valve (also 1") whose electronics failed after about 18 months of use. The failure caused a major flood due to the fact that the ball valve did not close when power shut off (it should have closed but the capacitor required to do so failed). While the flow rate of the solenoid valve is noticeably lower than the ball valve, I hope to avoid that scenario with this valve since it mechanically closes.

Product worked and performed as it should. I thought I ordered a new unused product but it looked like it had been installed and used prior to my purchase. It had pipe thread tape in the threads and rust on the brass. If it wasn’t for those things I would gave it 5 stars.

I purchased this solenoid valve to use in a 1" water supply line that 'demand feeds' a water storage tank when a float switch in the tank indicates the water level in the tank is getting low. The solenoid valve has been working flawlessly for several months. I installed the valve about 3' away from a pressurized water bladder tank, thinking the tank would absorb most of the water hammer induced by this valve snapping closed, but it didn't. There was severe hammer in the line, due the very fast shut-off time this valve delivers. I mitigated this issue easily with an inexpensive (large) water hammer arrestor, placed near the inlet side of the solenoid. Now I can barely hear the valve snapping shut, and there's no hammer whatsoever in the pipe. This solenoid is a solid piece of work, to be sure. I removed the threaded plastic wire entrance cover to the solenoid, and replaced it with a metallic metal flex conduit fitting, and soldered the pigtail wire leads to standard ROMEX wire, shrink wrapping them neatly inside the conduit. A single nut loosens on the top of the solenoid, allowing the solenoid housing to be rotated to ANY position (full 360 degrees of freedom) to 'point' the conduit in an optimal direction. The valve body is clearly marked with inlet and outlet direction. Very satisfied customer.

Works great and came in new condition. The box was a little worn for wear, but that didn't matter to me.
