This a good manual switch disconnect for a battery, instead of mounting on a battery; I will be bolting 4/0 solderless crimped lugs to each side of this switch. I am using this Heavy Duty Side Post Battery Disconnect Switch to turn on/off 48 volt DC power to/from a 16 cell battery bank in an off grid solar power system. This switch is rated for 12-48vdc and 250amps continuous use and my system is 48vdc at a max rating of 150amps. This switch enables me to safely isolate the battery bank from the solar charge controller and inverter while doing any kind of maintenance to the system. This switch will be a great electrical safety lockout.

I have an old truck that kills the battery when I'm not using it.I needed a way to easily connect the battery when it sits without having to pull the side posts off. This is a perfect solution to that problem. My only complaint is that they should not have threaded both of the holes on it. If you are going to be installing this on a side post battery the threaded holes on it will make it a major pain to get it to snug up to the side post, which is also threaded. They should have left one hole unthreaded so it can go on the battery side and then thread the other so you can bolt your cable up to it. I took off one star for that flaw. I had to drill it out with a step drill bit to get it to work. The switch connects solidly and feels like it will hold up for a long time.It works exactly as I had hoped and keeps me from having to unhook and reconnect my battery every time I want to use my truck.

Got this for a beater truck that drains the battery for reasons that aren't worth the effort of finding out... so a good switch is nice! Happily handles the power draw of the starter and the plow. The construction quality seems fine, no problems but not exactly industrial either. The knob makes for a nice indicator without exposed metal that could touch something like lever styles have. The lack of a any "click" when it's switched is disappointing, though that doesnt affect the functionalityThe issue I have is the installation, specifically the bolt holes. Both holes are threaded meaning you cant properly attach it to the battery without drilling out the threads on the battery side or the switch will be floating on the bolt rather than against the battery terminal. You could tighten them separately so that the switch is at a specific angle to the battery, but that makes installation a huge hassle and potentially impossible if the fuse box in the way. Both of those options are likely to cause the bolt to loosen and make a bad connection. Not a big deal if you know you need to drill one out, but if you don't then it's likely to come back to bite you. Would much rather see one hole unthreaded, or even both with a nut instead.

I really like these switches but the 275A rating is highly suspect as mine runs 30F above ambient temp under just a 150A load. If they rated these at 125-150A it would have 5 stars

Modifications required with drill for battery post as the hole is threaded and won't tighten unless it's fully threading into battery (my case anyway). Good concept but quality is questionable.

I bought this switch because of the contact area compared to other switches. Everyone compares electricity to plumbing and can recognizes for more wattage you will need bigger wires and bigger wire lugs, but then they have these tiny connections on the switch. Even the breaker switches! The last breaker switch that I had was rated for 170 amps, but my inverter kept shutting off with loads of only 44 or so amps. When I removed the old switch from the equation everything would run fine. Thankfully I found this switch! I'm running some pretty fat wires and the lugs make 100% contact with this!

I use this as a disconnect for my snow plow power supply lead. This way I'm sure that any possible phantom loads or shorts are not affecting my battery in the cold weather. Well worth the peace of mind (unless you like jump-starting in sub freezing weather!).Recommended
