The alarm that goes off when they touch the mat is just too quiet. It is NOT enough to startle them away from whatever they're doing, and the conductivity of the mat could also use some work. It doesn't go off every time you touch it, AND there's a bit of a delay, so it's not very effective as a training tool if they can jump up onto the counter without a reaction for several seconds, only for it to go off later. The shock setting is also just way too strong at its lowest setting, in my opinion. Obviously I tested it on myself before I would allow my pet to be zapped, and after feeling it I can't in good conscience put it on that setting for my cat. It's just too strong right off the bat, they need a lower setting for sure. I'm trying to startle my cat off the counter, not give her a heart attack or make her jump to the ceiling. Overall I just wasn't impressed with this mat, and won't be using it as a training tool for my pet.

I have some small criticisms but the bottom line is: I had a problem and this thing solved it! Based on that, it gets 5 stars. We have 3 Shih Tzus. The last dog we got was a puppy when we got him and he is almost 1 year old now. He potty trained pretty good but we moved when he was about 6 months old and in the new home, there was one door that he insisted on marking every chance he got. He would come in from the back yard and still go mark that door. I tried everything I knew to get him to stop. I was at my wits end and searching the internet for tips to break him from that habit. One of the suggestions was to exclude him from the spot he was marking. I started looking for something to help and found this. I honestly didn’t know they even made these. It was exactly what I needed. I charged this up and rolled it out in front of the door. He hasn’t marked the door since. I have never seen him even step on it but I know he has because he won’t step on it now. After all my frustration, I never would have believed it would be this easy to solve.Now for my suggestions for improvement: 1. The mat has a tone mode. You can have the mat only produce a tone and a red LED light or you can pair it with the static shock. I think the tone volume is too low. I would have expected more volume from it when it is triggered. There is no way to increase the volume that I see. 2. The mat relies on conductivity. It’s winter time here and of course my skin is dry but it is surprisingly difficult to trigger the tone with my hand. Perhaps a little bigger wire would help?Other thoughts. The battery life seems good. I like the fact that the magnetically attached box can be removed from the mat for charging. The clear mat goes okay with any interior color.
