I love shaved ice. On a hot day there's nothing that cools me down as quickly and as well, and tastes great while doing it. In fact I have the automatic/electric version of this (from the same company) which is why I ordered this one. I had tried other shaved ice makers and none of them produced the true shaved ice feel I was after, they all gave me a consistency between shaved ice and snow cones. When I finally tried the one by Hawaiian Shaved Ice I finally found what I was looking for, snowy, fluffy shaved ice. What makes this fun is that you can take it with you anywhere. If I wanted to bring it to a friend's house or even to a park it's easy to transport. I could take my automatic one to someone's house but it's much bigger and has more parts and would just be a bit of a pain.It comes with 2 cups for making ice and I learned with my other machine that it's a good idea to freeze extra ice and store it in the freezer. I just wrap them in sandwich bags then stack them in a larger container. That way they're ready when I need them. I've also used my homemade lemonade for shaved ice and it's pretty much the most refreshing thing I've ever had. You can use the same syrups made for coffee or italian ices, like Torani syrups, or you can get familiar shaved ice flavors from this same company too. I've even been making my own pineapple syrup from real pineapple and it's delicious! Don't forget to add a swirl of condensed milk on top. It takes it to a new level.

We have a little snowy and that is definitely the preferred method of shaved ice, however, sometimes we don't have a plug and we need another option. Enter the snow cone machine. This is fun because it's manual and the kids like to make their own snow cones. And this also brings a different texture to the table, less fine shaven and more tiny granule, traditional snow cone like ice.If you have the ice available, this is fun to take on picnics or to the beach, just make sure you have the right size (larger) ice.

It is loud, like fingernails on a chalk board loud! Closing it on an ice block is not easy. I am not a small guy and I have to lean into it to lock it in place. Now the turning part, you rotate the handle clockwise and it takes a long, long, long, long time to shave the ice.If you want Hawaiian ice, do not get a manual unit. It will melt by the time you shave it. 😝Did I tell you it is loud and screeches a lot. 😋

I used to love eating shave ice all the time, but I've cut down on sweets a lot, so I stopped and got rid of my electric one ice shaver.Guess what, it didn't stop the craving completely, but I couldn't justify getting another electric one. This is perfect. Yes, it does take a little bit of labor, but for once in a while, it delivers the results I want for shave ice or a small bingsoo dessert. I just didn't want the hassle of another electronic appliance. This felt sturdy enough and the ice molds works out great. Plus for me, it's a bit satisfying to get a little workout in making the shave ice.
