These things work amazing even in wet environments. There is a large quantity of these in a small bag making them very portable and storable. They light easy with very little resistance and the size when pulling them apart is impressive. Great value for the money.

Have not used these "in the field" just a bench top environment not exposed to the elements of the great outdoors. But in best conditions you get up to 4 minutes of "usable" flame with a total burn time in my expirence upto 5 minutes.

No dislikes yet. Seems to be fairly waterproof that's really the whole point here. I do keep a few in water tight match container just in case. Also if you have trouble getting one end to light just fray it with your fingers and it'll light right up.

They are not super easy to light. Have to hold a lighter on them for a bit but then they do stay lit pretty well

If you use them correctly they work very well! Last a long while about 4-5 minutes, light easy and stay lit.Like any fire starter, if it’s super windy they can be harder to stay lit at first, but I just cup my hands around them to block out the wind for a few seconds until they get going and thats all they need.Make sure you are not just trying to light them as is, it probably won’t work. They are meant to be roughed up a bit and the cotten exposed before lighting. The easiest way to do that it to grab them from each end and move them the way bike peddles move. This will soften the wax water proofing and expose to flammable material to be lit.

So I had seen something like this on a camping show, and these are exactly what I was expecting. I wanted something to keep in my survival kit, and for taking backpacking, that would be very light without being smelly. When you have to live out of a pack for three days, you don’t want those chemical smells permeating everything. These have no smell, they are very late, and work very well.I’ve definitely made the cotton ball/petroleum jelly in tinfoil starters, and those work great. But I wanted something for keeping, long-term in my various survival kits throughout the vehicles I own and in backpacking. I just wanted something very basic, but that would work well. These have no smell, they are small and very light, and work very well. I will say I do love Bushcraft and having been a pathfinder leader I’m pretty good at building a fire without any starters, so I did have a good base of tinder prepared when I use this. However, it did burn long enough that I think it would be helpful in conditions where you might not be able to find the pitch and dried tinder readily available. Certainly they’re small enough that you could take quite a few with you and then burn two or three if it was wet conditions.

These Dextreme fire plugs are impressive! I'm new to hiking/survival, so im buying many of these items and using them for the very first time in my life. When I recieved them, I immediately wanted to try it. I recently purchased a Ferro Rod, and wanted to test these out to see how easily i could start a fire, and, first try, got it lit. My 12 years old son got it within 3 trys. So basically, with no experience you can use this tool effectively, thats the type of gear that I want to rely on! The flame lasted about 5 minutes, which is plenty of time to get a fire started. A 50 count bag will last me quite a while I imagine, but when I do run out, I will purchase these Fire tinder again no doubt!
