I bought this to fix an old NuTone 8831/8831A which had a blown motor. I could find almost no information about the 8831 model online and all the parts including this one were made to fit the 8832A model, but I figured it looks close enough to give it a try since the alternative would be cutting up drywall to install a new fan with the housing.1. The fan wheel on this is slightly too big to fit in the hole of the 8831 housing. It's plastic and you may be able to grind it down a little to fit, I took the old metal fan off instead and put it on this part. Getting the old metal fan off the motor spindle was a real doozy, there is a tiny set screw inside the fan on the 8831 and even with that removed it still required a lot of PB blaster and persuasion. Getting the fan off this new part was a challenge too - there's a youtube video out there that shows you how to support the fan with blocks and hammer a punch into the spindle, which works eventually.2. I was worried the flange on this part would be too wide to fit in my old 8831 housing, which is only about 7" wide. Fortunately due to the various notches on the flange it does indeed fit when rotated properly without any grinding. It doesn't sit flush due to the bevel in the flange, which doesn't seem like a problem. However, the screw holes don't line up and I had to drill new ones into the metal housing. With this done, it fits securely and plugs right in and works properly.3. The cover on the 8831 fits this without issue.It works well to replace the motor in an 8831, but is a hassle to install this way and may not be possible if you're not handy. You should weigh this with the cost and hassle of just getting a new bathroom fan (or replacing the motor alone, which would be easier but was not an economical option when I wrote this review)Five stars because I am clearly not using this product as intended and it still worked.

Nutone does not make a replacement for 8830You will need to modify the existing fan housing in order to install this fan in this model.My house is a 1960 rambler with a little modification this will work. However this is a difficult installation if you do not have the correct tools or skill . Fan works great other than rate of modification difficulties this is a good fit . If this did not work the drywall would needed To be removed, refinished and painted .

This fan is listed as direct replacement for an old Nutone exhaust fan.I had to make a slight adjustment to the retaining holes to center the fan.It took 10 minutes to exchange even with the slight modification.Works great!
