This device appears to do a great and accurate job of testing for TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) in our drinking water. The TDS levels are more important to me than hardness due to the potential dangers. Really like this tester. Easy to use and understand.

This review is for the AYINLAB TDS Meter Upgraded 0-9999ppm, Accurate 2%FS Digital TDS Water Tester for Drinking Water, Water TDS Tester/PPM Meter for RO/DI System, Pool & SPA, Tap Water, Water Filter, Aquarium, Hydroponics.I wanted the AYINLAB meter for monitoring my drinking water that comes from the local river. The water utility provides all sorts of levels of contaminants in their reports but not Total Dissolved Solids as far as I can find.Using the AYINLAB I measured my tap water to be 151ppm and filtered water to be 134ppm. These numbers seem high but I have no way of cross checking them. However distilled water actually measured zero, which gave me confidence the AYINLAB was working. As to the AYINLAB meter itself, the only instructions I could find were on the Amazon product page. If you have read down this far you have already gone past them. Using the meter is not difficult. Push the start button and read the number in the display. What was difficult was getting off the cap. The probe cover and the battery compartment cover pull off with more force than I would expect. Please don't waste your time trying to unscrew the caps like I did.Five stars.

I drink water from the same brand countertop RO machine at work and at home. It is the same water source from our town but the readings on each machine are different. The reading at home is a normally lower than the reading from the machine at work. So I got this meter to test the water. I tested the water at work and found the meter reading lower than what the machine reading was. I tested the water at home and found the reading higher than what the machine showed. From this I am deducing the meter should be fairly accurate. I will be replacing the filters on the machine at my house soon and will retest at that time. Either way, the water from both countertop RO systems are excellent even with the older filters at my house. I have tried to convince my co-workers to stop drinking bottled water in plastic. I store the RO water in glass bottles trying to eliminate the waste and to do my part to help clean up the planet (and my body from additional micro-plastics).

The TDS meter is easy to use. Push the power button on the side of the stick and it will read "0" instantly. Hold the stick in water at an angle that allows you to read the display for 2-3 seconds. You will see the display change from 1 to 999. Keep the box, as it is your only documentation. The back of the box highlights what the numbers mean in terms of water quality. The numbers seem accurate. My only complaint is that the display is live, there is no hold button or automatic hold to allow easy reading of the display when measuring at an awkward angle. A major use of the meter for me is monitoring the water quality of hydroponic tanks. For my setup, I am accessing the tank around the growing plants sometimes can be challenging. I have deducted one star because of this problem.

The product works well but didn’t do really what I wanted to do. This tester measures the quantity of solids present in the water. It includes everything not just the calcium present. So distilled water reads 0 and filtered water (Brita) maybe a 100. Tsp water measured around 380 or so. It didn’t matter hard or soft.My hope was to be able to get some meaningful water softener measurements to chart daily water softness. It seems the calcium part of the solids in water constitute a small part so the measurements are not able to distinguish water harness, at least in terms of calcium content. So the tester does what it supposed to do but not what I was looking for.

Major downfall, it does not hold the reading, and one needs to not it down while it is dispersed.

This water tester is so easy to use—just press a button, and you get instant results. I’ve tested drinking water, my aquarium, and even my tap, and it works great every time. The readings feel very accurate, which gives me peace of mind. It’s lightweight and portable, so I can take it anywhere, and the long-lasting battery means I don’t have to worry about it running out quickly. If you need a simple and reliable way to check water quality, this little gadget is perfect!
