I needed to make a 3” dia. X 2’ deep hole to set a 2-3/4” dia. pole in the ground next to a walkway and plants.. There was no room to use a shovel. This auger dug my required hole in about 2 minutes, and a minute later my pole was in the ground and plumb in both directions with no disturbance to adjoining plants or walkway!! I have plans for dog fencing, bird feeder poles, etc., and this auger will come in very handy indeed!!! I do recommend it!

This worked a lot better than I expected based off some of the other reviews. I had a drainage issue due to some hard clay and wanted to drill some drainage holes for a plant. It quickly broke through the clay. Made a total of 4 holes without any issues and still appears to be in great shape (although I probably wont need it again). Great overall value.

This auger drill bit is exceptional for digging holes in dirt. It cuts through soil effortlessly and efficiently, making the job quick and easy. The build quality is sturdy, and it handles tough ground conditions well. Highly recommend for anyone needing reliable performance in their digging tasks.

In the interests of wind mitigation and soil conservation we decided to plant a shelter belt at our place. After tilling and amending the soil and laying the drip irrigation lines, we shortly thereafter received word that our 350 trees and shrubs would be arriving at the local DNRC office. I had a sneak preview of what the plants looked like and realized that the root systems were more robust than I realized. I started looking for solutions that would accommodate 12+ inches of roots and based on recommendations on Amazon chose the 3 x 24" version of this product. I'm 6'5" and as it turns out that was an ideal length to squat over the auger and run the drill such that each hole was about 14" in depth. The deeper the hole (at least at our place, the more clay I encountered so found myself resisting the corkscrew action trying to pull the drill into the ground or torque it out of my hands. Quite frankly after I had augured out 100 holes or so I figured there was no way this product was going to hold up as the soil was getting firmer the further I got from the creek bottom. In fact, I had to switch out drills to allow batteries to charge and the drill to cool down while the auger just kept going. I would estimate it took about six hours to drill all the holes. At that point I had 350 perfect little holes with dirt heaped up around the edges, and it was a simple process to drop in a tree at the appropriate height, throw in a big handful of potting soil, and cover and compact the root ball with the native soil around the edges. This product was a big big help with the whole process and much less taxing than trying to use a shovel to do the same. The picture of the auger is at the last tree, and it looks and works as good as new!

Bought this to make post hole digging easier. It is too small for the hole, but worked to loosen up the soil and make digging easier. Saved me a bunch of time!Only taking away one star because the steel on the hex connection with the drill is VERY soft, and when the auger hit rocks or had any side loading on it, the metal sheared and the auger slipped out of the drill chuck.Other than that, the rest of the tool held up very well and basically fulfilled its intended purpose, even though I was pushing it a little harder than I think it was designed for. Still money well spent considering the time it saved me.

I've seen these advertised on TV and it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. However, when I first used it, the point wouldn't penetrate the ground to start the hole. The point is round and doesn't penetrate hard ground. It works fine in loose dirt.

I used this with a 19.2 volt cordless drill and it went through solid ground like it was butter. Well worth the price.

The only issue is that shank hex size is not defined in the description, they only state it fits a 3/8 hex chuck?. But the product does the job.

I have 2 - 3 inches of soil and then rocks. These augers are definitely helpful and faster than digging hundreds of holes by hand. Unfortunately, both augers broke. Even though the hex shape fits snug in the drill chuck, with all the stones the hex eventually severed from the auger. As pictured, the 3x12 auger broke off after ~40 holes. I also included an image of a sample of rocks from a few holes. Ranging in size from 0.5in to 3in. The smaller auger was better, getting through ~250+ holes before the same thing happened. I would consider getting just the smaller 1.6x9in auger again because it was much faster than digging individual holes.
