I've seen this particular brand auger bit talked positively about by some YouTubers that I follow so thought I'd give it a try when I needed a new one.First time using it was to add some bench dog holes to a worktable. 28 holes later and I was happy with this bit. I've used bits that got dull after 10 holes. Not this one. Did all those holes and was still as sharp, it seems, as taking it out of the packaging. It did a very good job pulling the vast majority of the wood up to the top of the surface. It also does a very good job of leaving the other side remarkably free of blowout.I'll definitely be getting more of these bits as I need to replace other sizes.

I bought this 3/4" Wood Owl auger bit based on favorable reviews provided by other woodworkers who used it to cut dog holes in the tops of their workbenches. I built my bench with a 2-1/2" hard maple top and used a portable drill guide and a Forstner bit to cut holes half-way through it. This was a little slow, but I could cut no deeper due to limitations of the drill guide. I used a router with an 1/8" round-over bit to break the sharp edges of the holes. After clamping a board across the bottom to minimize chip-out, I used the Wood Owl to complete the dog holes. It cut through the hard maple like butter and left a sharp, clean exit. Before cutting each hole, I inserted the auger and ran the drill in reverse to bottom it out before reversing direction and drilling through. This ensured the straightness of the bore and eliminated the possibility of messing up the top part of the hole. This auger is not inexpensive, but worth every penny.

Used with a bit and brace hand drill and it worked perfectly! Much more control using the hand drill and surprisingly easy to drill.Definitely a quality drill bit. After using this one, I bought 2 other sizes.

Work great with an old bit brace with an adapter. Very aggressive with a power drill - you need to really control them with power tools.

It cuts fast and clean. Better than a spade bit. If you need to cut a 3/4” hole fast and cleanly, use this over a spade bit.

It drills very smooth, effortless 3/4 inch holes for an auger bit. I was drilling holes in a 6” thick hardwood work bench top. I tried a brad point, Irwin speedbor auger, and the wood owl. The wood owl outperform all of them. I was surprised it did better that the brad but the brad took a lot of force to push without a drill press and wasn’t as smooth a cut in the end. I wish I had started with the wood owl. The hex shank is a littler larger than the standard 1/4” but it works as a round shank as well, which is how I used it. Fantastic bit.

These bits cut cleanly and accurately with no tearing of the wood on entry. The inside of the holes are clean and smooth. I've used the bit on pine, maple, birch, and other woods. They also take less effort to turn than a typical bit. Would highly recommend this product.

I love this bit. When I first got it, it felt a little light and I was unsure as to how well it would do over time, but I’m using it in Cedar and it eats it up. Perfectly clean holes; the two cutting wings see to that. Excellent chip ejection. I use it chucked up in my hand drill on low speed. I’ve also used it in a brace drill. Be advised, but won’t fit in a drill guide because the chuck is too small. But I’d buy this bit again in a minute.
