Our patented Side Post Battery Disconnect switch is designed to be used with General Motors style batteries with the connections on the side. A simple twist of a knob provides a convenient way to quickly disconnect and reconnect power from an automotive battery. This switch provides a clean, solid, low profile connection to GM side post batteries. The switch makes it simple to disconnect your battery to work on your vehicle or the knob can be removed to prevent theft. It also works great to eliminate battery drain if you’re storing a vehicle for an extended period of time. Tested to exceed a continuous 200 amp load. This switch can be used as an in-line device on the negative side of the battery to break the ground connection. This works well on motorcycles and vehicles that do not use conventional car batteries. Easy to Install Instructions: 1. Disconnect ground (-) cable from battery and attach it to mounting flange side of the threaded hole on the switch. 2. Using the supplied bolt, attach switch to (-) battery post. The mounting flange on the thru-hole must contact the battery post. 3. Turn black knob fully clockwise to connect battery power. To disconnect power, turn knob 1/4 turn counter clockwise. Knob can be removed for anti-theft. 4. Keep connections clean and tight to assure optimum performance. For batteries with two connection posts on the top, our Top Post Switch is the best selection.

Take good look at the assembly before you install it. The bolt was screwed into the the threaded side of the terminal disconnect for the sake of packaging. Unscrew the bolt out of that and put it through the thru-hole and screw it into the negative side of the battery, and use the threaded bolt of the negative (ground) cable and screw it into the threaded terminal of the disconnect. It will work just fine!

The package arrived on schedule. The materials are assembled well. There is a jagged surface on the battery terminal connection side to improve resistance to loosening. The knob rotates and disconnects the metal on its surface between the cable and battery.Issues: While the bolt will screw into the battery ground post, the extended length of the post through the cable connection post can easily leverage rotation on the battery connected bolt while attaching the ground cable of the car and will loosen the bolt attached to the battery. The design improvement would contain set locking positions at 10 degree increments to prevent the installer from loosening the bolt attached to the battery. This device is best when the battery and cable are firmly secured and left alone. This should not be used if any part of the battery and cable are loose such that the movement of the car could disconnect the ground. A passenger could get caught in an electric only door lock system in an emergency and the device has loosened. The charging system would not connect to keep the battery charged. A secure connection is needed with locking bolts and cable ties. When the knob is loosened, the three components metal of battery, insulator, metal of ground cable loosen. The knob has a metal surface that electrically connects between the ground cable and battery ground and presses these three components together. If the loosened components bend under tension of the ground cable, while working on the vehicle, it can connect the ground when they press upward into the knob and make electrical contact to the battery ground.Th knob is probably best removed when disconnected. And firmly closed and attached when operation of the vehicle is necessary.

This item is built strong and works exactly as advertised. My car battery kept discharging inexplicably while parked overnight. After a number of inconvenient jump starts, I decided to deep-charge the battery fully and install this disconnect switch. There is a washer included that normally needs to be inserted between the switch and the side post. The instructions only mention it as a side note. If you fail to include it, you will likely have difficulty connecting the negative cable. I wen't through this during the first attempt but after reading the instructions closely, I installed the washer and the install was then done easily.Overall, the included instructions show the clear step-by-step install process with illustrations. After you complete the install, all you need to do is rotate the knob a quarter turn counter-clockwise. This creates an open circuit between the battery and the negative cable and prevents the possibility of battery discharge. To start the vehicle again you just rotate the knob clockwise to it's fully closed position and the circuit is again connected making the vehicle ready for operation. This won't solve the discharging problem with the vehicle(that will take some diagnostics and repair from an electrical repair shop)but it will effectively prevent a sound battery from discharging. The switch can also be used for theft prevention. The knob is easily removed after it is rotated counter-clockwise. I plan to use this feature when I park at an airport long term. The only hassle is that you'll need to reset your dashboard clock after each shut-off. If that's too much for you to bear, there are electronic switches available that accomplish the same, but these are costly.I can strongly recommend this product.
