This is about the most simple way to isolate a car battery there is. Easy to install and use. By just throwing the switch you disconnect the battery and eliminate ghost draws that drain batteries during storage. The quality of this switch is kinda low but due to its simplicity it does not effect the function so much. I will say that there is limited amount of contact in the switch which could be improved to increase the performance. I can see where the switch could be too tall if you have low clearance under the hood. If that is so they make similar switches that eliminate this. All in all for this price its a great deal and sure beats replacing a dead battery.

these knife blades are advertised as capable of 250 amps; however the sturdiness of the contact is so poor that there's no way I can use them in my electrical system, they got one star because I was dumb enough to order these crappy things!

Used JB Weld to glue the three parts together. When they were loose they moved when the screw was unscrewed due to the stiff battery cable. Couldn't disconnect without taking the screw all the way out. Glueing t together fixed this problem.

I have an old Mazda MPV van and the alternator is rediculously difficult to get at, let alone replace. I suspect one of the diodes is leaking and causing a parasitic drain on the battery. It's slow but enough to shorten battery life. The alternator charges well enough but then takes back what it gave. Isolating the battery from the mystery drain with a kill switch is a good option for me as the van is only used once or twice a week. And I'm not paying someone $1500 to replace the alternator. The Nilight is a decent kill switch and for the price I'll rate it at 5 stars. It's a good value and a no nonsense old school device. I reconfigured the terminals for my application and it fits well. You definitely want to make sure the ground cable is loose enough to not put any tension on the device because the isolation bracket is plastic and bends with any force. To me it could be a little thicker and maybe a different type of plastic, though you wouldn't want it to be brittle either. I did take some time to make sure the lever blade and slot lined up perfectly for the greatest amount of surface contact when closed. There is enough play in the terminals to allow some adjustment.Solid brass and copper construction at the price point is exceptional. Aside from the aforementioned plastic that could be a little beefier my only complaint is one. The clamp with provided bolt that fastens to the battery post (negative !!!) could have been designed to hold the bolt head from turning, and even better with a square headed bolt. To make it worse, the bolt head is 13 mm but the nut is 1/2 inch. What's up with that? It actually worked out for me since I only have one 1/2 inch wrench, so the combination with the 13 mm was handy. I rather doubt they designed it for the limited tool box, but who knows?
