Post and terminal sides were both undersized. Battery side terminal had to be opened up to fit on battery post and then when tightened the cast metal cracked in two. Total failure. Ordered a different switch and that one worked perfectly.

This appears to be cast aluminum or pot metal that is painted to look like brass or copper. See attached picture, the shinny area is where I was easily able to scratch the paint off. Might be okay for small battery applications like lawn mower or small car, but I would not use on anything that draws a lot of amps.

I would call this a medium duty switch. This battery cutoff is advertised for use on cars, vehicles, RV’s and boats but be aware it is has a current rating of 250 Amps. So you really need to do your homework and find out the requirements of what you are installing it on. Example car batteries can easily exceed 500 CCA (cold cranking amps) which means you could have double the amps running through this switch which would quickly burn it up.I picked this up for my garden tractor which at most would have about 150 amp draw when starting. So this switch would be suitable for this application. I also found I should have measured my battery cable prior because it ended up a little short so I had to reroute it to install. So good idea to check you will have enough cable to reach the terminal. One thing I was not expecting and not sure it’s an issue is the post is hollow-see photo. Most likely it will be fine just assumed it was solid. I did open up the switch to see how “ heavy duty” it was and after inspecting will stick with my “ medium duty” description. The switch is made from copper but as you can see the actual contact surface is a little small, just the tip of the round part will be making contact with. So fine for smaller applications like lawn mowers, garden tractors, small boats but always check your manual for the battery size recommended by the manufacturer and ensure it will not exceed the 250 Amp rating of this switch. For $20 think it is a good value for the correct application, just be safe and don’t overload it.
