Nothing is easy to install in a sail boat, but not bad. It seems to work well, time will tell.

After trying to make this pump work for several hours it was clear that this product is an inferior one. In my case the pump was meant to purge a holding tank in a boat and it was installed less than 4 feet above the intake of the tank. With this configuration the pump never primes. Further tests revealed that if the intake hose is very short -in the order of 20 or 30 cm- the pump primes immediately and in this configuration (and only in this configuration) I have seen no hesitation in its working, but as the length of the intake hose is increased intermittent priming is observed, until the priming stops completely with about 1 meter of hose. At this point the pump never primes anymore, until the length of the intake hose is reduced again to a very short length. In order to prime these pumps must create the conditions for water to be "sucked" into the pump itself but for this to occur the air tightness of the seals internal to the pump is essentials. My experience indicates that this pump fails miserably in that area, being capable of creating the suction for only a very short hose. This makes it almost useless as a macerator pump for every application where the pump is not located in the immediate vicinity to the tank it is supposed to purge and if marginal designs are to be avoided, this pump cannot be trusted for any application in which self priming is required, which limits its use to applications where the pump it installed below the tank. The current draw was measured at slightly above 12A and in all the tests performed the 20 A breaker that powered the pump never tripped. I was never able to test its ability to macerate the contents of a holding tank because I was never able to make it work properly, and it was eventually replaced by a Jabsco 18590 which, at twice the cost, has been priming without hesitation for dozens of tests.

Far better than the Jabsco it replaced. I always coat replacements with Fluid Film to prevent corrosion in the marine environment. Warranty is better than industry standard.

Installed this in my boat as a replacement for the old pump after reading positive reviews regarding reliability and value on this brand. In a boat holding tank situation maserator pumps live a hard life. Due to the way plumbing is arranged they usually sit idle for periods of time with black water in the mascerator section. Depending on your location or proximity to international waters you may go months between using it. I am hoping for the best over time but for the price point I feel the value is fantastic even if I only get 5 years but hopefully much longer. Installation was very simple and in fact it went better than the old pump. For my particular installation this pump lifts about 2'. Not annoyingly loud at all and I'd guestimate it pumped 10 gallons of 'test water' in roughly 80 or 90 seconds. I went with free shipping option and I received this earlier than expected which is always a plus.

This is a good macerator for permanent installation. I modified my RV waste drain with a tee so that I can have the both the standard 3 inch connection and the macerator available, both with their own isolation valve. I included a union so that the macerator can be easily removed for service. Power is supplied by # 10 copper wire ran directly to the battery compartment. The outlet is a 1 inch barbed connection so I used a piece of hose with a cam-and-groove connector on the end. I use a 20’ 1 inch waste hose to pump uphill to the sewer cleanout at my home and empty my two 40 gallon waste tanks in under ten minutes.Parts used for installation:Tee: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002E888X2Reducer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N5T4LGValve: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B95OV0AValve: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00594B1KAFlanged fitting for valve: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006MRR62Union: union https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H5OAH2Wire: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NUYAIASwitch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019BIVBGSWaste hose: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004OZR23ACam-lock female fitting: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003S5UZT0Cam-lock male fitting: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AB5UOLOABS pipe cement and teflon tape: Obtained locally
