Review: Replacement Mailbox Flag for Rubbermaid and Gibraltar Mailboxes I have been looking for a replacement flag for my Rubbermaid 7273 large mailbox from the 70's and found this flag it is short enough to pass through the mailbox's overhang cutout with a 3/8" push in mount. The hole in my mail box measured and I verified with a drill bit at 3/8". This flag I received has a very tight fit instead of enlarging the hole or trimming the flag's mount I inserted the flag by heating the mailbox side with an hair drier then used a large 'C' clamp and a 1/2" socket on the inside allowed me to press the flag into the hole. All tho it is a solid tight fit there is no problem raising or lowering the flag.

I have a rubbermaid 7272 mailbox with a flag that broke off. I was looking for a replacement flag, and while this one looked like a similar shape, the style of how it connects to the mailbox appeared different. The one I had, there was like a plastic bolt that sticks through a hole in the flag, a hole in the mailbox, and then you lock it in place with a little plastic washer thing that snaps on to that bolt. I couldn't find a replacement flag that looked like that same style, but, I took a gamble on this one... without measuring, and was just hoping it was the right size.This flag comes in a clear plastic bag with a cardboard thing stapled to the top to close it. My first impression of the flag was that it was smaller than the one I had, so I was a little worried it wouldn't work.I went out to my mailbox, and tried to snap this thing into the existing hole where my old flag was. It was definitely not easy to get it in, and for a moment I thought perhaps the hole was too small and I'd have to enlarge it... but, with a little persistence, it finally snapped in to place. It's a very snug fit, which means it takes a little effort (nothing big) to raise and lower the flag, whereas our old one was so loose you could just poke it and it would fall down. This one is firm. I expect this one will perhaps loosen up a little bit with some use.When I first saw this style flag, comparing to the one we had with a plastic bolt through it, I was skeptical that it would fit, and that it would stay in place and not fall out, but thankfully I am not at all worried about that after actually getting it installed. So while this is a bit smaller than the rubbermaid flag it was replacing, it works, and works just fine.

Flimsy fragile junk in my opinion. It is so thin that it bends quite easily. It fits loose in the original hole, and I have no confidence that the mailman either (1) will grab it hard enough to pull it out of the hole, which won't take much effort at all, or (2) it will be bent and require constant straightening.Overall, it is junk. I would NOT order again.FURTHERMORE - the packaging has printed on it "DO NOT RETURN TO AMAZON" and instructs to email the company if you are not satisfied. Well, I emailed the company, included my Amazon order number, and ZERO REPLY FROM THE COMPANY. Totally ignored my inquiry. (And yes, I checked the spam folder).Therefore, not only is the flag flimsy junk, but the company does not respond.HARD PASS. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST ITEMS THAT I HAVE PURCHASED HERE, AND I HAVE PURCHASED THOUSANDS OF ITEMS HERE.

Bought this as a replacement flag for the Architectural Mailboxes “Grand Haven” mailbox. The mailbox hole was too small for this replacement flag but that was an easy fix with the drill. Flag then snapped in securely and moves up and down smoothly. This flag is much shorter than the original flag and is not visible over the curved top of our Grand Haven mailbox. Overall seems to be a good, sturdy replacement, just too short. Will continue buying this one when needed until I can find a taller one.
