I heard about this on YouTube when researching the best product for new butcher block countertops. It was easy to use, applied last October, it's doing just what it promised it would do. Countertops look beautiful, the shine is unbelievable, the color comes out a little darker and I love that.

Liked the food safety of this product....the dark color only barely darkens the boards

Works amazing on knurled walnut countertops, walnut knife handles, zebra-wood, red oak, and Brazilian walnut. However I tried it on knurled maple and it hardly took at all, even with sanding and water brush application. Granadillo, and blood wood went well and gave it a richer color, poplar though did not seem to take well. Unfortunately I failed to keep pictures of the red oak and poplar. The product is made from citrus and tung oil and rated safe for food surfaces such as counters and cutting boards, and looks great on the walnut countertops. I love the citrus scent but it can be overpowering and I would recommend that you use the product with an open window or well vented area. One quart will go a long way, however pending on the porosity of the wood that may vary. On the countertops I used 4-5 coats and used about a gallon over all, re using the used lint free cloths on the consecutive coats helped. Knife handles made from knurled walnut and other woods worked very well and gave an almost iridescent tiger's eye appearance. In all I recommend the product if you dislike harsh chemicals, but some woods may have results that are less than desirable.

I made a new birch butcher block counter top for our kitchen island, but didn't want to seal it with urethane. The Dark Half worked great, with the only real caveat being the long cure time. What you see in the photo was four coats, each coat making it slightly darker, though it unfortunately dried a fair bit lighter than hoped. Since we were hoping to better match the floors, with the next reseal in 6-8 months, we will likely go with the full dark tung oil from Real Milk Paint Co.Be warned - the citrus aroma is very strong for the 7-10 days, so make sure you put it in a well-ventilated area. The smell isn't horrible like many thinners have, but it can be strong enough to irritate the eyes and nose.

On clear pine the product tends to highlight any and all imperfections. I sanded off the first coat and started again with the same result. I have used Tung oil throughout my house with a different product and never had an issue. I would compare this product to staining pine without using a wood conditioner that usually results in blotchy coverage. I was charged $132 but the price in the box from Amazon said $48.39, very disappointing. I have pictures showing Milk Paint Dark Half beside Tung oil from a different company, it’s quite revealing. If anyone is interested in seeing the pictures please just ask. Don’t waste your money.

I needed to re-finish an oak bathroom vanity that was looking dreadful. Time was an issue, so I decided not to do the traditional routine of sanding, stain and topcoat. I searched online and learned about oil finishes and was intrigued. I chose this product due to it being of natural ingredients like Tung oil and non-toxic, that could be easily applied. My first impression while opening it was that it had a very powerful aroma. Not bad, just very, very strong. It has a good viscosity while pouring and mixes well with a consistent color. I applied it to the vanity with a bristle brush and rubbed it into the wood with fine steel wool. The natural turpentine in this mix did two good things, it lifted the remaining old color from the vanity and allowed for easy penetration of the mix into the wood. I left it to dry for 48 hours, then applied a second coat. The only problem encountered was the smell. The odor lingered for close to a month. As i said before, not a bad odor, just a very powerful one. If using indoors, I'd recommend applying this product more so in the warmer months. That way windows can be left open to fully ventilate the area.Aside from the smell, Real Milk Paint Dark Half is a great product to use. it is safe, natural and can be re-applied as needed. Pricing is fair for the amount that you get. I highly recommend.

I used this product as part of my original butcher block finish. It has held up amazingly well despite exposure to water from the sink, steam from the dishwasher, and our general kitchen chaos with young kids and such.We are at the six month mark so I added a coat today for maintenance. The scent is pleasant and I love being able to apply it mid-winter when windows can’t be opened. I ran the kitchen exhaust fan for about 20 minutes but the scent is light enough that I likely would not have needed to do even that. The maintenance coat took a few minutes to absorb into the surface, which tells me the original process worked exactly as it was intended to. I wiped off the excess, took the rag outside, and we will leave it alone for the day.I wish you could feel the texture of this butcher block with this finish. It is not shiny once dry/cured, but has a lovely matte finish with a really neat feel to it. Extremely easy to clean with a cloth wet with warm water and dish soap. Food spills do not penetrate nor stain nor stick to it.This product made it easy for me to have the wood counter top I wanted for our island. I couldn’t be happier.
