My husband and I do animal rescue from our home. We rescue cats and we have a lot of little ones running around. We were having a big problem with them getting on top of our 100 gallon fish tank and I hate to say it but yes somebody peed on the tank oh my gosh and it killed the fish I was so upset! I had bought a scat mat I would say about 17 years ago because I had a dog that had severe separation anxiety to the point that he tried to dash out the door every time I would try to go to work and then he was clawing into the sheetrock to the left of the front door frame it was stressful to say the least. It worked back then amazing to keep the dogs from you know running out the front door so they respected that boundary. Now back to the presents it is working absolutely amazing it has a couple of features on it one is it gives a warning like a beep and then right after that it will give a shock within like a second and yes I allowed the shock my fingers I am a major animal rights Advocate and would not use something that I thought would do anything more than startle scare or something minimal of that nature to my babies. At the end of the day I buckled down and bought another scat mat and we have it on top of the fish tank and it is doing a great job. The other thing that we have tried is buying those air canisters with the motion sensored things on top but the refills are very pricey and with as many animals as we have we just felt that we needed to do something different this time around so I highly recommend for any of you that are on the fence that this is Humane and it doesn't hurt them it just tells them don't get back on top of this and it absolutely works you can use it anywhere that you don't want them getting on to. It is very pliable it is very durable clear plastic there wasn't any assembly other than putting in a battery. So it was a very easy to set up we just had to put in the battery and set it up where we wanted it. I also like that it is very long it is over about 5 ft long 60 in it's about 1 ft wide by about 60 in long and it works great! I also like that since it is just sitting up somewhere you could easily wipe it down and clean it just don't forget to put in the off position or you'll be zapping yourself :-)

Late review because i forgot. Anywho I got it because I bought a very nice looking used sofa at a deal. Then my lovable doofus dog started tearing the fluff out of the pillows, like she did with my previous one. And not only that, of all the available places to puke, she decided she wanted to puke on the sofa 3 times! (She's fine btw, she just ate too quickly). I have it on the tone plus the lowest static option. I want it to get her attention and know that particular sofa is off limits. Plus she's just shy of 20lbs, so anything higher seems unnecessary. And it's uncomfortable, i tried it myself and even i didn't like anything after low. What I don't like is that every time I've turned it back on I have to readjust the static to ensure it's at the lowest setting. Battery life has been alright, I make sure it's off at night when I know it won't be needed. And back on in the morning, she's a pretty quick learner so I'm kind of hoping just having it there and not on will keep her off the sofa. Also I got the longest one, and it's still just a hair too short for my sofa. But the brief uncomfortable situation should teach her quickly to stay away. It's pretty quiet, but it's just loud enough to get her attention.

I bought this mat because one of our dogs kept knocking over the kitchen garbage can at night. She’s on a medication that makes her hungry all the time. She’s trained to not get into the garbage but just can’t help herself due to the meds. I put this mat on top of the covered can at night. I use the sound & highest level of shock setting. It works great, is very durable & easy to clean.

My kitten kept knocking valuable things off the shelves. I finally figured out to stop it. Cats hate foil, and combination of the foil and these mats work! The batteries are totally dead now, but the kitten is scared of it so he stays away.

Kept my dogs off the couch, we’ve all ended up zapped a few times. But it works

This was a great mat with the static & shock options and the buttons that stayed lit so you could see it was on. However, after 9 months it no longer works. I bought new batteries & it drained them all one right after the other, lasting only for a minute.

Used for dog. The dog does not stay on it long enough for it to activate. A rope type placed around the edges would work better for a large dog
