The hiking signal mirror is a good size and light. It’s easy to use with the instructions printed on the back of the mirror. It’s very sturdy in a plastic case. It comes with a lanyard that has a whistle on it plus a tiny compass. This is good for camping or a go bag, you’ll have the ability to signal for help in case of an emergency.

OK product , seems to be made ok, about the same as comparable things sold in sporting goods stores. It took two deliveries and a return to get the right product. Not really worth all that...

I like the larger size “starflash” style mirror which doubles for both emergency signaling and for personal hygiene/inspection of areas not otherwise directly viewable by an individual. The 1 3/4-inch long ferro striking rod permanently bonded at the edge is a nice addition as a backup to your full-size ferro rod for emergency fire starting. The tiny compass at the edge of the card is an absolute last resort for general direction finding, but better than nothing. Metric measuring scales (1:50000/cm=500 meters) are printed along the edges in red. Finally, I find the whistle entirely useless. Device with neck lanyard and plastic whistle weighs 2.9 ounces (83.2g). U.S. Dollar Bill shown for sizing comparison. At listing price at $10 USD (at time of writing), I find this item to be an excellent value.I hope you’ve noted my comments and photo as helpful in your consideration of this item.

I have small acrylic signaling mirrors in each car, in each Go Bag, etc., but this signaling mirror smashes those. Not only it this one actually a mirror (as opposed to the reflective acrylic), but it's far larger and has a sighting hole (lacking in the cheap-o acrylic mirrors). The only trade-off is that those acrylic mirrors weigh in the tenths of an ounce, whereas this one weighs a few ounces. In a Go Bag, where you're packing a lot of items & so every ounce matters, it is a bit on the heavy side to allocate for just a mirror...but since it can be the difference between being rescued and being stranded endlessly, to me it's worth the weight.I'll forget about the extras on here and rate it 5 stars for the mirror alone (the primary reason that I got it). Those mini ferro rods are borderline impossible to actually use and start a fire (like the acrylic mirrors, I also keep full sized ferro rods in each car, Go Bag), the compass kind of works but isn't super accurate, the whistle is actually pretty decent though, and while it's always good to have some extra cordage, that's another thing that I keep an abundance of separately.As a signaling mirror, despite it's heavier weight, it works way better than cheaper / lighter weight alternatives, and so I highly recommend this!

So this little survival mirror combo tool is great. It's useful and has good features. The mirror itself is good, not super great quality, but I think it will work fine. The flint on the side is a nice touch. The whistle works well, pretty loud. The lanyard/rope is sturdy. I like the measurements on the sides. There's two common map conversions and centimeters, but I would have also liked to have inches. The instructions are printed on the back of the mirror making it easy to use and so you won't lose them. The only thing that makes me take off a star is that it states this is "military grade." Now full disclosure, I'm not military. But I would think military quality would be higher than this mostly plastic item. It does feel like it will work, but it doesn't feel very heavy duty, like you could toss it in a bag of tools and go hiking and it would not break or scratch. There's also no case or cover, which makes me wonder also about scratching, so you'd probably want to store/carry it in something that would prevent it from being beat up too much. Overall, I think it's a good product and nice to have in a survival gear bag, just not what I'd expect from "military grade." So with that in mind, if you didn't pay too much and expect too much, it's worth the price to have around, as long as you don't allow it to get too scratched or beat up to prevent use.

This is every bit as good as my military surplus glass mirror, for a lot less! What it really needs though is a decent case to protect it and keep it clean. The case it ships with is a travesty. I ended up cutting a thick sock up to make a covering sleeve and it now lives in a small Molle pouch with a compass.

how does come already all scratched up and dirty? I think the scratches are on the inside of the layer that sandwiches the reflective surface. and it's not like one little scratch, it's like this was a used product that they just put new plastic over and resell. what a joke, they can 't be serious with this thing. the lanyard is new but how could anything be sold like this? need it for a trip but will look to remedy this somehow. none of the inexpensive ones get good reviews and now we know why. and it's way too thick / bulky / heavy for what it is.
