Nice to be able to dim and brighten my bedside lamp so conveniently, but I do get light-flickering and buzzing when I turn it to the brightest level. Not sure why that is...it should be compatible with LED light bulbs.

I live in a pretty cold area and I also have a pet bearded dragon. I added another heat lamp to his tank so the temps would be appropriate but his tank then became too hot. I got this unsure if it would work and it works wonders. Its priced well and super easy to use. I've had absolutely no problems with it.

I used leviton sliding dimmer switches for years and they worked as advertised and never seemed to wear out, I'm looking at one right now that I installed 35 years ago on a swag lamp and it still works like it did on day 1. Lo and behold they stopped making them CRAPOLA !! !Casting around for "old new" stock I found a few on EBAY for $30 to $40 OUCH !! BUT Amazon had a wheel type dimmer that showed great promise. I received it in 2 days Prime and saw that it would could work out just fine. I used another product Vampire plugs {see my review} to convert it to an inline switch. Snip, snip.push push all done.

Given the price I'm giving this five stars. It works well it dims and brightens smoothly. Like most other dimmers when you get to the dimmest level, sometimes it flickers off. But there's a good amount of dimming that occurs before that flickering level. I'm no electrician, but stripped the wires from my "clip on" gooseneck lamp (with a dimmable LED bulb), then did the same thing for the dimmer (on the lamp side of the control) and wired/wove together the copper strands just by hand and then wrapped the 2 individual wires with black electrical tape. After that, taped the pair overall together. Lots of tape reasonably snug. When light is not needed, I make sure to turn the dimmer fully off (you can feel the click) so that home made connection is not always powered (safety precaution). I'm happy with this device. I decided to hard wire because of too much cord length. Initially I did just plug in my lamp and that worked fine too.

This cord has been justifiably pilloried for getting dangerously hot, smoking or melting. That shouldn't happen. There is no mention on the Amazon page of any UL certification of this dimmer cord. Nor do I see a UL symbol on this device.I hadn't read the reviews prior to my purchase and I didn't expect it to be a fire hazard. I think that any dimmer switch should be able to handle any lighting load you put on it ‒ particularly in the case of a single outlet extension cord that is likely to bring power to only one lamp. So, after reading the prior reviews, I set about finding a replacement on Amazon even before I received this cord. I found that it is quite common for cord dimmers to be restricted in current capacity, and I wasn't confident of finding a better one.Traditional dimmer switches work by resisting current flow, and the resistance creates waste heat. Modern dimmers have sophisticated circuitry that rapidly turns the current off and on.I don't know how this dimmer works, but the heat production is consistent with dimming via resistance. The greater a current flow (amperage) through a resister, the greater the heat produced. Incandescent bulbs draw roughly ten times the current drawn by LED bulbs of equal lumens (light production).I am using this dimmer cord to power and dim a track light that supplies three led bulbs. The total current used by those LED bulbs at full power is 15w. When dimmed, they use even less current, though there is slight warming of the switch. The insignificant warming doesn't concern me.The cord has a built-in fuse. Its apparent purpose is to prevent excessive heat production if someone attempts to use this cord to power incandescent bulbs of high wattage.I used a sharpie on the switch to write "LED bulbs only."

Electrically, this is deeply flawed, as the fuse it touts as a safety feature will not blow before this becomes dangerous and melts. This listing and packaging describes it as good for up to 150W; at 120V, that's 1.25Amps. the internal guts are rated for up to 2A, however the *fuse is rated for 5A*. Therefore, the fuse will *not* protect you If you over current this; your first indication will be that it stops working as a dimmer as you overload it's components before it starts to melt and burn.If you choose to buy this, pay close attention to the 150W limit* you need to adhere to it by knowing what load you're putting on this.

Used with cheap led dimmable bulbs (Luxrite) from amazon. They worked just fine together. Only complaint is the cords are too short. Unless it fails with use I will not need to update the review.
