From the Manufacturer

Control the next generation of lighting with Lutron's dimmable C.L dimmers! Screw-in dimmable compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and screw-in dimmable light emitting diode lamps (LEDs) are a great energy-saving alternative to incandescent or halogen light sources; however, dimming them may be difficult. Lutron's new dimmers with HED Technology provides a solution to alleviate your dimmable CFL and LED dimming challenges, while setting the right light level to improve mood and ambiance. The Credenza dimmable CFL/LED lamp dimmer with HED Technology features advanced dimming circuitry that is designed for compatibility with most high efficacy light bulbs. Simply plug-in your table or floor lamp with the Credenza and start dimming! Use the slide to turn the light on/off or up to brighten and down to dim. Lutron dimmers with HED Technology also provide full-range dimming for halogen and incandescent bulbs, ensuring today's dimmer is compatible with tomorrow's light sources.

Exactly what i wanted. Had been looking for some time. Dimmer is exactly as pictured and described. Love the infinite adjustment ability with most LED lights. Works great and love the fit and finish of the dimmer.

Perfect length. I love that the dimmer switch is at the very end of the cord. The cord is quite long. It made a big difference for my sconces. I can now easily reach the on and off/dimmer.

> The easiest way to add a dimmer to a plug-in lamp. Just plug the Credenza dimmer into the wall, and then plug your lamp into the dimmer's plug. Has a positive "off" (a position past minimum that you can feel click in place). Works with LED, incandescent, or halogen bulbs.> Depending on your circumstances, dimmable LED bulbs may work just fine with your "legacy" "incandescent" dimmers.> UPGRADING ? --- I purchased the "Lutron Credenza ... for dimmable LED ... " to replace a virtually identical "legacy" "incandescent" Lutron Credenza dimmer for use with an LED bulb in my floor lamp. The "Lutron Credenza ... for dimmable LED ... " isn't really a significant improvement. Either dimmer can only dim my Sylvania 74691 or with Sylvania 772978 LED bulbs (both he equivalent of 100-125 incandescent bulbs) down to the equivalent of a 30watt incandescent bulb. Apparently this is characteristic of "dimmable" LEDs (which really should be called "semi-dimmable" , not a shortcoming of the dimmer.> FLICKERING --- I also experienced some flickering with my "legacy" Lutron Credenza dimmer shortly after installing the LED bulb -- but I've learned that that is a powerline issue -- some or all LED bulbs are susceptible to flickering when used with some legacy dimmers, if there is a fluctuation in the line voltage or frequency. Theoretically, the "Lutron Credenza ... for dimmable LED ... " should eliminate this problem -- but I haven't been using the new dimmer long enough to confirm this. Depending on the quality of your power supply this may or may not be an issue for you.> WHY BOTHER --- So, why upgrade to an LED bulb if your old dimmer with a 100watt incandescent bulb works better? Well, it is getting impossible to find 100watt incandescent bulbs. About 1/10th the operating cost is a clear benefit -- albeit it may take decades to recover the "upgrade" cost. For that matter, even LEDs can die early -- you may NEVER recover the upgrade cost. Nevertheless, I've replaced all the lightbulbs in my home with 1600 lumen daylight LEDs (the equivalent of 100--125 watt incandescent bulbs, and the effect is startling -- I had never realized that I've been living in a cave most of my life. The brightness is a great luxury -- and at a lower electricity cost. Of course you can upgrade to bright LED bulbs without upgrading your dimmers -- or even without using dimmers at all. But in some application dimmers are desirable. Just don't expect a dimmer to dim your LED bulbs below about 30%.> Another reason to upgrade to LED bulbs (with or without dimmers) is that you can install a 100watt-equivalent (1600 lumen) LED bulb in a fixture that has a strict warning not to use greater than 60 watt or 75 watt (incandescent) bulbs -- because the 1600 lumen bulb only uses the current of a 15 watt incandescent bulg and only generates the heat of a 15 watt incandescent bulb. Suddenly my bathroom is bright and beautiful (with a 1600 lumen daylight LED bulb, instead of a dim dull 75watt "warm" incandescent bulb).

We have been using this dimmer for a few months on an LED rope light we have affixed to the back side of the top of our headboard to provide both lighting and ambiance. This particular rope light is VERY, VERY bright and the dimmer was the perfect fix to adjust the brightness down when necessary such that it doesn't negatively impact our ability to sleep. The dimming variation it provides is very thorough, and you can also turn the light completely off with it. It was super easy to install, and the rectangular fixture that houses the sliding apparatus that does the dimming has rubber pad on the bottom to keep it in place on the nightstand. We've also put up beautiful reclaimed barn wood on that wall and it's nice to create a different look just by adjusting the amount of light shining up on it. We are quite happy with the purchase. We have had no issues whatsoever with the dimmer and would recommend it.

Ive been wanting to put a dimmable bedside table lamp with an LED BULB in my bedroom. The headboard is pretty close to the back of the wall. The way this dimmer works is you plug your lamp into one end of the "extension cord" and then plug your lamp into it. This ends up adding about 2 1/2" of length from the plug tip to the end of it. If your plug goes straight into the back of the wall outlet, and you have something close up against it, it's going to be a problem. My solution was to buy a cube plug for the wall outlet. Now that 2 1/2" length comes out the side of the cube running parallel to the wall instead of extending out from the wall. The other end of the "extension cord" has the dimmer slide on it. A nice feature is that you can completely turn off the lamp from the dimmer by sliding it all the way to the end. You will hear and feel a positive "click" as it goes into the off position. I was afraid that I was going to have to turn the lamp off AND use the dimmer, but once installed, turn your lamp on leave it on. You have full control from the dimmer! If you're going to be using this for an LED bulb or a compact florescent, make sure you buy the model that has the C.L designation. There is another version that looks identical but is not designated by C.L, and it will not work properly with an LED or compact fluorescent bulb. They look identical!I'm using this with a GE 60 Watt LED bulb and it works pretty well. The range of light from dim to full is pretty decent, however I noticed that the specifications call for certain lightbulbs and the preferences is for Sylvania and Philips brand. I may pick up one of those to see if the range of light from low to high is improved. I figured GE would be the benchmark for a quality LED, but they are not identified as a preferred bulb for this unit. You may want to pick up a Sylvania or a Philips brand LED. And make sure the bulb itself is marked "Dimable". If you are using this on a bedroom you might want a "soft white" rather than "daylight" bulb as well. My first bulb was "Daylight" and just far too "hot white" for a bedroom. So far I'm very impressed with this. It was a very inexpensive solution to getting a dimmer in my bedside table lamp without having to replace my otherwise perfectly fine lamp and buy a new expensive dimable LED lamp.
