Does exactly what it's supposed to. The automatic shut off at above freezing temperatures makes it a hands-off approach that you can leave on throughout the cold season.

The product I received was completely different from what was advertised. Mine did not come with GFCI protection, even though the listing clearly shows it.Worse, the moment I plugged it in after wrapping it around my pipes, a spark shot out from the thermostat joint. Immediately, the red light on my outlet turned on. I tried resetting it, but nothing worked. After some troubleshooting, I realized my outlet had burned out completely. I had to rush to HomeDepot 30 minutes before closing to buy a new GFCI outlet just to fix the damage. This product not only wasted my time and money, but it’s also a serious fire hazard. Avoid at all costs!

i use it to wrap around a 4 port faucet manifold rather than a straight pipe. This makes it harder to position but the tape is flexible enough to allow it. In 20 deg. weather it is warm to the touch and definitely keeps the water in the manifold from freezing. Later in the morning when the sun hits it, the auto -thermostat turns it off.

Using this to keep a motion activated water sprayer activated in below freezing temperatures.Tool deactivates and activates at correct temperatures. Used wire ties to attach to garden hose. While not recommended by manufacturer this is working for me on a 25 foot 16g green extension cord. Note this is NOT considered OK by the manufacturer.

Product Overview:The EXPORTION heat tape for water pipes, designed with a thermostat, promises to be a reliable solution for preventing frozen pipes during cold weather. My Initial Observations:- Sturdy Construction: Though I didn’t find specific specifications, the cable appears sturdy, indicating durability for outdoor use. While I'm not certain about the gauge, it looks like it could be 14 AWG. The outdoor sheathing can make it feel heavier, so it might also be 16 AWG. Either way, it appears to be properly engineered for its purpose.- Safety Features: The product includes a reset switch, likely a GFCI reset similar to what you’d find on a hair dryer. This is a significant plus, enhancing user safety by quickly cutting power in the event of a ground fault.- Self-Regulating Technology: This energy-efficient feature allows the heat tape to adjust its output depending on the ambient temperature, preventing excessive energy consumption.Potential Benefits:- Effective Freeze Protection: The heat tape should effectively prevent water pipes from freezing in cold weather, minimizing the risk of costly repairs.- Versatility: It is suitable for both metal and plastic pipes, offering flexibility in application.- Ease of Installation: The product comes with foil tape for easy application. After wrapping your pipe, you can secure it with the included radiant tape.- Temperature Range: The heat tape activates at 37°F and turns off at 50°F, maintaining water flow at 40°F if wrapped properly.- Long-Term Durability: I believe it will hold up as it has a hefty feel if kept out of direct sunlight during hot months. Additionally, the thermal fuse could fail during a sudden power surge, making the reset switch especially useful.Value: It seems like a competitive price as others of similar quality, and I looked closely at some that use a thin sheathing; this is thick and sturdy like a heavy extension cord.Length: I received 30ft, and you are going to lose some length as it's wrapped; I haven't done the math yet, but - MAYBE 12ft of tape (depending on how cold it is and how much you wrap) for every 10ft of pipe.Overall Impression:Based on my initial observations, the EXPORTION Heat Tape appears well-constructed and potentially effective in preventing frozen pipes. I plan to test its performance further this winter, as I recently had a pipe burst in my smaller travel trailer due to freezing temperatures. In my area, lines can freeze even before reaching 32°F, as experienced recently with my garden hoses during chilly, windy nights. I typically draw water before daybreak for my animals. This review reflects my initial impressions, and I hope it proves to be helpful!

Used in well cover box. I had 6’ of exposed 1” pvc pipe. Wrapped around pipe every 3 inches and needed all 18’ I purchased. Seems to work as it should.

I love that this water pipe heating cable has a built-in ground fault circuit breaker for added safety. Peace of mind knowing my pipes are protected.
