Works as it should. 2m of wire on 3 x 12v deep cycle batteries and solar panel. Absolutely chews voltage. So 12v would probably work best on a power adapter

Bought a 1 metre length of wire to prevent the mains water pipe freezing in an unheated property. Used in conjunction with a STC-3008 controller to regulate the temperature to keep the ambient temperature around the pipe above 2 degrees. The temperature of the element appears to self regulate at a max temperature slightly above 40 degrees Celsius, without any external controller so could work equally well on a timer, during the colder part of the day. My advice is that you could invest in two separate cable elements and double wrap the pipe to ensure more surface area touches the pipe for faster warm up times in colder climates. It's a must to lag your pipes to retain the heat the element puts out using a combination of reflective foil and wool type insulation.
