I ordered the “3FT Heat Tape for Water Pipes with Waterproof Thermostat, Self-Regulating Trace Heat Cable for Metal, Plastic Home Pipes, Roof and RV” to review and to help protect a several thousand-dollar steam unit that my builder insisted on installing in our attic, against installation instructions. We live outside of Houston, TX and have no chance of freezing 99.9% of the time but that .1% of the time can be dangerous. Our houses are not built for extended freezing temperatures but they do happen. I really like that the 3-foot version fits mostly around the housing. I’m only using this as a backup system so that’s ok. The primary system is a few hot light bulbs and a temporary housing I place around the unit. I like how hot the wire gets. I also like that the plug has a power indicator light inside. I realize that the instructions can be a bit confusing but I am not following them and its working great. 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️– Average to Above Average – At least what you would expect based on the Product Page. When my house was built, not only did the builder not bury the pipes deep enough, but they ran the main connection above ground before entering the house. This has been an issue in the past, with teens to single digit temps freezing my pipes even when the taps are dripping inside. This heat tape served quite well in a recent cold snap, where temps were not above freezing for several days. I still had running water, which is what this product was made to ensure. It regulates itself, so it will probably live where it is for the rest of its life.

Here in coastal South Carolina we rarely see frozen pipes, but it happens. So in anticipation of some cold weather moving in this week, I ordered a 6 foot section for my wellhead. The package arrive the next day and the kit includes everything you need to install it. It maybe could have used a few more zip ties, my preferred method of installation, but there was an adequate roll of special tape included to apply it also. The instructions were well written and the English was actually correct, even my English teacher mother would have approved! Too often these type products have either no instructions, microscopic script, or terrible English that leave you scratching your head, so kudos to the manufacturer. I would recommend this product if you're 'on the fence'.

This was the perfect antifreeze option for my outdoor sink as part of my winterizing tasks. The PEX pipe is inside a stone cabinet and is not directly exposed to the elements, but not by much. In the past, a sudden freeze crept up and was unprepared having the outdoor sink faucet freeze and break the threads. Since that time, the faucet, under counter hot water heater and sink are removed and stored inside the garage, however that leaves the cold-water feed exposed to freezing temperatures. Unfortunately, the plumber installing the line did not provide a shutoff valve at the main takeoff point. Living in the south, freezing temperatures are sometimes sudden, but usually do not last all season. The heat tape was easy to install, and since I had a 3 Ft section to winterized, I used the straight installation method rather than wrapped. Three tie wraps were included, however I needed more and dug into my own supply. Also, since I have foam pipe insulation available, instead of using their tape, I used the foam insulation. There were no precautions or warnings against doing that, but since the foam insulation was made to withstand temperatures greater than the heat tape supplies, I thought that was a safe option. So far there has not been any issues with this installation.Since the price for 3 Ft. and 6 Ft. are the same price, it would be more cost effective to get the 6 ft version. The tape can always be wrapped around onto itself according to the installation instructions. Since this price is much less expensive than a plumber visit, there is no reason not to purchase this heat tape if you have a need and have an available electrical source. This heat tape is highly recommended.
