2. Measure the length of the pipe you need to heat to make sure the cable is long enough.
3. Start winding the cable from the bottom or side of the pipe. Ensure that the cable is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the pipe as it is being wound.
The cable winding interval should not be less than 1.96in/5cm.
4. Avoid cross-winding of cables to ensure even heating.
5. Avoid valves, joints, and other obstructions on the pipe when winding the cable.

7. You may also consider using pipe insulation to improve heat retention.
8. Connect the plug to an electrical outlet. When the indicator light of the plug is on, the cable is working.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
It is not usually recommended to use duct heating cables in concealed locations. For example, inside walls, ceilings, or other locations that cannot be easily observed and maintained. Because it is difficult to inspect and maintain, there is a potential fire risk and it does not meet safe

This worked, but should really come with a label stating if you don't need the whole roll at once, to uncoil anyways. I used about 1/3 of it on an outside sump pump pipe and it worked great to thaw it out. The rest of the role I left coiled up while in use. The outside plastic melted together and made the rest of the coil unusable and unsafe.

I have a very cold basement that's a walk out so I have exposed walls. The clothes washer pipes are close to the wall. One winter the cold water line burst making a mess of the basement. I've put insulation around the pipes so it hasn't been an issue since then but I still worry. I got one of these and with the winter we had(very mild) I've only had to use it once. Simple to install. Just wrap it around a pipe and plug it it. It heats up nicely but not to hot and its a great peace of mind when it's 2 degrees outside for a couple of days.

My husband was the one to install this water pipe heating cable, but he said it was very simple to do (other than crawling under our house lol). You simply just wrap it like a coil down the length of your pipe. He put ours where the pipe first comes out of the ground and into the house. The cable is a nice length so that it covers a large length of our pipe. It also has a built in thermostat so that it will automatically kick on when it falls below a freezing and then turn off when it's 50 degrees (Fahrenheit). This helps save on electric bills. It also means that we don't have to be home to turn it on if it falls below freezing- it will automatically turn on for us.The cable is thick and durable too, so I'm not worried about it wearing, kicking, or breaking in any way. It definitely seems to he well made.Overall, this is a very nice heating cable with useful features. It would work great for mobile homes, houses, or even RVs if you camp full-time.
