Forstner Drill Bits

Tips

The cutting material must be fixed, and the drill bit should be perpendicular to the material. It will damage the tool or the material if the cutting material moves during the drilling process.

Forstner Drill Bits

Two Spurs & Center Spur

Two spurs and centering point can offer repeated, clean and accurate cutting holes. The sharp center spur accurately locates the center of your hole.

Forstner Drill Bits

HOW TO USE

  • Put the hole opener into the electric drill before use and confirm that it is firmly clamped before it can work.
  • Keep the vertical angle with the workpiece when working. After the hole opener drills through the workpiece, the workpiece should be withdrawn while the hole opener is rotating.
  • Please clean the sawdust in time to avoid opening failures during continuous work.
  • Workers should wear corresponding protective equipment when working to protect them from working safely, and apply rust oil after use to extend the service life.

WIDE APPLICATIONS

Forstner Drill Bits

  • This forstner drill bit are suitable for cutting holes onto most low hardness wood and wood products. Can easily enlarge existing holes and bore any arc of a circle. Drills flat bottom holes, pocket holes, and overlapping holes.
  • Suitable for drilling low hardness wood such as density board, pressed board, plastic, hard wood, etc.
  • Suitable for bench drill, vertical drilling machine, carving machine, etc. The bit in the positioning is required to very low speed, and then gradually accelerate after complete position. Add water for lubrication and temperature reduction when drilling.
  • NOTE: This forstner drill bit can not drill metal and non-ferrous metal; To avoid causing damage, be sure no nails or other metal objects in wood before drilling; The cutting edge and tip of the opener should be sharpened in time.

WARM TIPS

  • Processing hardwood or other hard materials should be injected with water to improve the quality and accuracy of drilling, and extend the life of the hole opener.
  • The tool edge and tip should be sharpened in time if they are worn or damaged, or the tool will be damaged quickly. Can not drill metal and non-ferrous metal, otherwise the hole opener will be damaged quickly.
  • The cutting material must be fixed, and the drill bit should be perpendicular to the material. It will damage the tool or the material if the cutting material moves during the drilling process.

I got a 90 mm to cut holes in pine. Worked 2 times and then went dull. The 75 mm is still doing well. So i had to cut a smaller hole the use the bigger bit. Not advised, leaves a divot

While it did the job, it clogged and left things rough. If you need a smooth finish, spend a few extra dollars for a better one

I needed this large bit to drill five 3” holes in ash for a kitchen project. Aided by carbide cutting surfaces, it handled the job extremely well. The holes are very clean with no jagged edges, tearing, or scorching. I have never used a Forstner bit this large, so there was a learning curve. First, the torque required to turn this bit, especially in ash, was quite high. I had to set my floor-mounted 12” drill press on its lowest speed; otherwise the drill would stall. The piece being drilled had to be clamped firmly to the drill press table, otherwise the work tended to rotate. Feeding the drill bit into the wood had to be done very slowly to aid in maintaining the drill speed. I found it very helpful to keep a vacuum running during drilling; this kept shavings from plugging the bit while maintaining visibility, and enabled air to be drawn in around it to keep it cool. There are some safety issues one needs to be aware of: 1) this is a very large bit, and once it is running the outer edges of the bit become a blur making the (very sharp) edge cutters difficult to see. Just a slight finger touch will cause a significant injury. 2) This bit removes a lot of material, and, especially, at the start of the cut, will throw material sideways out and away from the bit. Safety glasses, or, even better, a face shield must be used. 3) I believe this bit can only be used in a drill press. I have serious doubts if it can be controlled safely in a hand-held drill (assuming you could find one in the first place with enough power and torque to drive it).All said, with the proper set up and safety precautions in place, this tool performed extremely well and did exactly what it was supposed to. The holes were precisely 3” in diameter.

I used it with my cordless drill and it works great with pine and soft wood but it had a hard time with hard woods but at the end everything ok.

The Hegebeck Forstner came packaged in a hard plastic protective case. That worked gret as the shipping envelopewasn't hard and would have ruined any other type of possible wrapping. Great job... and the bit worked perfectly.
