About this item

  • Razor-Sharp Serrated Edge - Features precision-ground serrations that slice through wood cleanly and efficiently, delivering fast, smooth, flat-bottom holes with minimal splintering in both softwoods and hardwoods.
  • Unique Geometric Design - Multiple cutting edges deliver superior shearing action, enabling faster rotation speeds and more efficient cutting performance across a variety of wood types.
  • Precision-Cut Starting Point - Features an ultra-sharp spur that guarantees accurate hole placement and minimizes bit wandering during drilling.
  • Efficient Chip Removal - Steep angled cutting edges produce chisel-like curls that clear chips quickly, reducing heat buildup and improving cutting efficiency.
  • Reduced Friction and Heat - Efficient chip removal prevents dust and debris buildup, minimizing heat generation and preserving sharpness longer than standard bit designs.

Product Description

Precision Shear Serrated Edge Forstner Drill Bit 1-3/8-Inch by 3/8-Inch Shank

From the Manufacturer

Precision Shear Forstner Bits feature a double-ground, razor-sharp serrated edge that slices throughout the rotation of the bit for less splintering and chipping, producingflawless flat-bottom holes. This unique geomtric design has multiple cutting edges that produce greater shearing action, allowing for faster rotational speeds and more efficient cutting. Competitive forstner bit designs produce small chips and dust that collect in the cutting area, increasing friction and heat, thus causing the bit to dull quickly. Those designs also create holes with rough edges that require sanding. In addition to serrated edges, Precision Shear Forstner Bits include a hardened steel body for longer life and sharper edge, an ultra sharp spur to ensure accurate holes and less "walking", and steep angled cutting edges to produce holes that are smooth and flat.

Clean cuts, smooth holes. I tried several brands and found these to be the best.

Freud quality and the wave cut leaves a very clean cut. If quality is your priority then these are a winner. More expensive than the junk ones but my moto is buy once, cry once.

We used this on Birch and it went through it like it was soft pine, you really need to be careful on the drill speed and the amount of pressure applied or it go too deep very quickly. We were using it for installing counter joiners on the bottom of the counter and it made very fast work of the hole drilling. It generates a lot of wood chips in a hurry, so having a vacuum near by while drilling keeps the mess down to a minimum.

This 1-3/8" bit worked extremely well on my current project (laminated particle board at 510rpm) (have not used it in wood yet). The bit cut the material perfectly and extruded the waste material better than any other Forstner bit in my shop. At $15.29, I thought this was a great value.

Good quality bit. Sharp out of the box and accurate. Used it to install 68 Blum hinges in maple doors in a new kitchen. Hinge hole #68 was just as clean and accurate as #1. Would recommend it for 35mm holes

Wow! What happened to Freud fit and finish? After a look at similar bits at Lee Valley, I am now sure it is not unfair to say that Freud has slipped. Very disappointed.

This is definitely one of the best drill bits I own, having made dozens of cuts with it. Never lets me down, most often the edges of the circle it makes don't even need sanding because the cut is so clean.I'd give it 95 points out of 100. To get 100, it should change the round mounting stem to beveled in order to hold with 100% certainty in the drill chuck. On the other hand, it's never slipped in my low budget Harbor Freight drill press, which is why it still gets a solid "A" in my book.Buy one--you will not be disappointed.
