Precision Shear Forstner Bits feature a double-ground, razor-sharp serrated edge that slices throughout the rotation of the bit for less splintering and chipping, producingflawless flat-bottom holes. This unique geomtric design has multiple cutting edges that produce greater shearing action, allowing for faster rotational speeds and more efficient cutting. Competitive forstner bit designs produce small chips and dust that collect in the cutting area, increasing friction and heat, thus causing the bit to dull quickly. Those designs also create holes with rough edges that require sanding. In addition to serrated edges, Precision Shear Forstner Bits include a hardened steel body for longer life and sharper edge, an ultra sharp spur to ensure accurate holes and less "walking", and steep angled cutting edges to produce holes that are smooth and flat.

If you want clean, accurate, well cut holes then these are the bits you should buy.I needed to cut a one inch drain hole in a stiff rubber water heater drain pain that was a half an inch thick. I cut through it with my Freud Forstner bit in less than a minute leaving a perfect one inch hole. Yes, you will pay more for these bits, but they are worth every penny you spend on them. Freud bits are sharp, durable and will cut through wood and rubber with near perfect precision. I highly recommend them.

Freud Diablo blades are the best saw blades there is. When I needed a fortsner bit I didn’t hesitate to go with the same brand. Bit is shard out of the box and cut through ash line nothing. Highly recommended.

I have a need to drill countersink holes in very dense vulcanized rubber for a small manufacturing business. I have been using other brands of Forstner bits with mediocre results... but then I tried this Freud Forstner bit. It was SO much faster and did not generate nearly the heat the other bits did, I assume because of it's unique and sharp scallop blade design. My old bits seemed to heat and melt the rubber more than cut, but this bit is literally like cutting butter. I have not had it long enough to compare the longevity yet, but I use Freud router bits all the time and should have known to try this Forstner bit first... it would have saved me a lot of time and smoking rubber.

First, a little about me. I’m a weekend woodworker, mostly craft and art pieces and some home repairs. For 40 years I have sufficed with a power drill and regular bits, occasionally a spade bit for larger holes. Then I decided on a craft project where I wanted really smooth precise holes (hence the purchase of a drill press as well, don’t tell the wife). To make the holes I bought a cheap set of Forstner bits. You’ve seen them here on amazon, seven bits for $12. What could go wrong? Well, they worked way better than my old bits. Amazingly better. But I noticed they got dull within a few uses. So I treated myself to this Freud bit. Ohmyfreakingawd!!! This was so sharp it was like a hot knife thru warm butter, and that was drilling into sycamore. So smooth, so fast, it was amazing. No more generic bits ever again for me. I am now going to splurge on Freud every time. They are totally worth it. Do yourself the favor and try them.

In my shop, we use Forstner bits daily for various jobs. I like these bits; they keep their edge, and they cut very clean.I recommend them.
