These came all apart in boxes and bags. They took a little time to put together before they could be used first. The instructions were a little lacking but there were no missing parts. Everything was used and went together nicely. The knob to remove and tighten them is easy to install and take off, they are very stable on top of the car, and they hold the kayaks well. The addition of the tie down straps in the package was wonderful since I did not need to find some to use them.

I ordered two sets to carry two kayaks on my Thule crossbars. They work exactly as expected and do a great job of making it easy to secure my kayaks to my car. The metal tubing which is used seems strong and secure and the bolts are a good size as well. Take your time with assembly and make sure all of the carriage bolt heads are seated properly in the frame. The rubber piece that fits over the frame does a great job of cushioning the bottom of the boats, but also can prevent the bolts from being properly seated. Tighten everything.Attaching them to the roof rails also takes some time but the design (with two separate nuts) keeps everything secure. I've had my kayaks on my roof at freeway speeds several times now and everything stays put. I'm even impressed with the straps which came with the kit...I use them along with a set of bungee cords and they keep everything tight.I'm sure there are probably more convenient and easier-to-setup systems out there. But for the price, these are great and do the job perfectly.

Good product for the price. I installed these on my kayak trailer and they work perfect. Assembly wasn't the easiest because the rubber center part gets caught every once in a while, but not terrible. Attached perfectly to the unistuts on my trailer! Saved me about 2.5 to 3 foot of space width wise putting these on. Didn't have any problems with quality that I've seen mentioned in other reviews. Would definitely recommend for the price.

I do not like to write bad reviews, but I hope this can be helpful for shoppers. I purchased this based on the good reviews; however, there were a number of mixed reviews too. Many of the negative reviews comment on the "lack of quality control" and "poor fitting". I would have to agree with them, it appears the manufacturer is not checking on the product they're selling. Customers are either receiving good products, or really faulty ones.I received a faulty pair unfortunately. They were not the easiest to fit: it appears they were slightly rusted and corroded on the inside. Once a pair was able to fit together, some of the smaller screws for the four corners would not fit through. No matter how hard I tried, 3/4 J-racks had at least 2 or more screws that would not fit. I even tried refitting each piece into a different one to see if they would be a better fit. So I ultimately tried some modifications based off a friends' recommendation to better secure the pieces, and it seemed to hold together okay.Fast forward to the second day of hauling Kayaks with the racks (had driven at least 100 miles), and one of J-racks comes apart while I was driving... Yikes!!! It was the top half, and it just came loose and hit the back of my Jeep. Thankfully that Kayak was secured to the other J-rack so it did not fly off. Regardless, it was very unsettling and I'm very thankful no-one was behind me.So I learned my lesson: you pay for what you get. After this ordeal, I ordered a $150 3-way rack elsewhere. Looking back, I would have rather spent more money on a better rack knowing my kayaks would be safe instead of purchasing something 'cheap'. It doesn't need much explanation, but cost/risk of losing your kayaks while driving is far greater than purchasing a better J-rack system!Bottom line: I don't think the manufacturer has any quality control on this product based on the reviews (they're either great, or terrible). Save the hassle and stress: pay a little more now for something better and it will be well-worth knowing your kayaks are safe!

The racks were kind of a pain in the butt to put together but one installed they are very sturdy. For the price you can't go wrong. The straps that come with the racks are junk . Throw them in the trash when you get them.

Less than $50 and they work great - what's not to love!I took 2 kayaks from Jackson, MS to Destin, FL with 0 issues. It takes a little while to assemble them, but its easy - you just have to do it 4 times. I have learned to put the straps through the large bars before putting the kayak on the rack. I also learned that putting a kayak on the rack by yourself is hard but doable. These racks let me take the kayaks with my Honda Pilot instead of driving my big clunky truck.

These were a little hard to put the bolts through the rubber when I first assembled them. Once that was done they were amazing. They fit nicely on our Malone cross bars. It is easier to put on and take off if you put one long bolt on the left and one shorter one on the right. This way I only have to take off one nut and washer when I want to take them off my Dodge Journey. I unscrew the short bolt side and loosen the long bolt side and I can keep it mostly together. These are study enough to hold Pelican kayaks going 75 miles a hour on the highway. We have had them for a year now and they rarely get taken off my car. Love them and am buying a third set now as we are getting one more Kayak. Great price!

Very pleased with these mounts. I researched mounts for a few months before deciding on these. They were the least expensive I found and was a little concerned they might not be robust enough for the two kayaks we tow on my 2014 Kia Sorento. However, after about seven long hauls (so far), they have held up perfectly, they have not come loose and they hold the kayaks steady, with no shifting or sliding. Excellent value and excellent performance. Assembly from the box is a bit of a chore and took my son and me about 20 minutes. After that, they are a breeze to work with.
