The Nogent factory was founded in 1923 by Mr. Louis André a skilled French craftsman in the Champagne village of Biesles. An area steeped in history where the tradition of manufacturing knives has been carried out since the middle ages. The "Nogent" name is well respected and identified as a manufacturer of high quality products. The factory sources the best quality raw materials such as beveled steel, with a high percentage of carbon and molybdenum. The production methods are honed by years of experience. For instance, all blades are hand ground and only solid natural hornbeam wood that has been dried for one year at the factory is used in their Classic Wood styles. All the wood used in production comes from managed sustainable sources. Nogent manufactures all its products in its own factory. All the production steps are quality controlled by long term and experienced personnel, which guarantees reliable products designed for longevity and a lifetime of use. 42 successive operations in ten different workshops are required to produce one knife or kitchen utensil worthy of the Nogent name. Nogent guarantees "made in France" quality for a lifetime of use.

It's a good can opener. I purchased in 2020 and it lasted until about mid-2024. The cog wheel teeth that grip the can have worn down and now I'm looking for a replacement. It's tough to justify replacing with this one knowing the design flaw, but it's certainly a can opener I'd buy again if other options don't work as well. I'd say it opened over 100 cans a year for 4.5 years - good, but not amazing. I do feel I got my money worth over that time though.

Oh, man, why did it take so many years for me to buy one of these openers.Just got my opener delivered yesterday, and used it to open a pull-tab can of smoked oysters that I love but have almost given up due to cut fingers and the difficulty in opening those pull tabs. This opener worked like magic! Worth every cent to have this in my kitchen toolbox.

I have had other "safety can openers" but none come close to the ease of operation and effectiveness of this little gem from Nogent. You do need to pay attention about placement of the opener on the can at first - once you see how to place the blade and guides then its a no-brainer; I can do it with my eyes closed - just by feel. The blade is super sharp and the handle is easy to rotate - even for a septuagenarian. Very easy to clean; when needed. Actually requires less cleaning than my regular can opener. Does require occasional oiling - easy to do; just a drop. I use tea seed oil that I have for my knives but any vegetable oil will do. Easy to store and travel with as well - one of the best kitchen gadgets I have ever acquired.

I am surprised at how beefy and how versatile this thing is. Typically with survival or low profile can openers, there's always some compromise that has to made - such as universality, durability, user friendliness - This can opener gives you a little taste of a world without compromise.I've tried all kinds of can openers, from the P38 / P51, to a whole galaxy of lame knockoffs of the aforementioned openers, to dollar store classic can openers that all of our moms had in their junk drawers, to the fancy high end can openers, to can openers that came in Hungarian mess utensil sets, to countertop electric can openers, to can openers on multitools - I kind of have a thing for can openers. So when I come across one that impresses me, it has had to work very hard to accomplish that. This is the only one where I didn't feel like I had to sacrifice something to use it.This is a fabulous piece of equipment so long as you don't mind waiting for the import times (it took mine about 8 days to arrive from France)

I haven't opened many cans with this Nogent yet, but it worked wonderfully the times I did. It was kind of tricky to get it to latch onto the can my first attempt, but once I figured it out it works great. The inside of the can gets pressed smooth all around, so no worries about getting cut. It was easy to turn and has large wings to push/grip in order to spin. This relives pressure on any specific point or on individual fingers, which I assume would be helpful for anyone with arthritis/joint pain. Now just to see how long it holds up. My more traditional "original" can opener with the disc cost almost as much as this and lasted only about 10 cans before skipping in cuts. I'll change my review if this Nogent can opener fails any time soon.Edit: Several cans in and I like it more and more. Works great on squared cans. Easy to get on and off now that I'm familiar with it. I may buy a couple as presents.

I don't usually yell in my reviews, but this opener is outstanding!Opens cans with half the effort of all my prior, and more expensive, can openers.I've tried all different types (including the "no sharp edges" side-openers), and this is better by far.Pros:1) Less effort required to turn handle2) Does not spin the can (which can mar countertops) -- instead it travels around the can3) Leaves the inside of the can very smooth - helps food slide out and it's safer to reach inside the can4) Does not leave any sharp edges around the top of the can (unlike some side-openers)5) Works great with cans of ANY size6) Takes up far less drawer space compared to a typical can opener (great for camping too!)Cons:1) The edge of the lid might be sharp (but it will fit nicely back inside the can once it's empty)2) Might take a couple tries to get the hang of how to properly remove it after opening the can3) Does not include bottle-opening or can-piercing attachments on the device, as typical openers doThis opener is fantastic for what it does. If you want something with bells & whistles, look elsewhere. But if you want something that simply opens cans all day and all night, this is the one you want.
