When I don’t want to bring out the regular bench power supply and instead, have a way to give enough voltage to my project, I like to use controllers like this one. So far, it has allowed me to make adjustments with input voltages from 6-18V, all with batteries across 4 different projects.

Constantly says it's in an overloaded state. Used with 12v input and a DC motor on a salt spreader.

I use it to adjust the speed of my electric motor. The adjustable settings for different voltages (5V, 9V, 12V, and 24V) give me a lot of flexibility. It’s reliable and does exactly what I need, whether I’m controlling motor speed or regulating LED frequency.

The Matell DC 5V-35V/10A PWM Electric Motor Speed Controller is a pretty nice small DC controller. It came with crimp fork terminals and the terminal screws loose in a bag. It's designed for through door mounting, and is only a little over an inch deep less wiring. The instructions are decent, and it's pretty easy to set parameters using the speed adjust knob; just push it in and hold until they come up, then push the button quickly to toggle through the four settable parameters, then set the value by turning the knob. The display is large, it's nice and bright and easy to read in normal lighting conditions. You can toggle the lower display while it's running to show watts, volts, and current.The unit is clipped in place using two plastic tension clips, one on each end of the case. I'd have preferred a bracket, but it should work fine depending on the thickness of what you're mounting it to.I set it up to run a 12 VDC linear actuator using a 20V to 12V battery based buck converter and a polarity reversing switch since this controller doesn't have one. The speed knob resolution is excellent using the multi turn potentiometer, better than I ever expected. What I couldn't get it to do though was to draw out the accel ramping. It's got a very short accel time even when the ramp setting is maxed out. The actuator was running with no load so that may be why, I'm not sure.All in all it's a pretty sophisticated controller for the price. With it's excellent speed control resolution you can really dial in what speed you want. It provides a lot of information with it's dual display too. If the mounting had been more robust and if the accel time setting was longer I'd give it 5 stars. As it is I'll give it a 4.5.

First off let me just say the safety circuit was the first thing I tested and it passed. The instruction manual threw me off as far as power input and I had them reversed. Well smoke appeared very quickly but no damage to the controller at all. >Great build quality, I am surprised by its compact size and easy of use. >I really like the black face with the bright green LEDs just makes it easy to read. >This item functions great with no issues. Easy adjustment of the motors speed through the control. >There are no batteries required. >This product is a great value for the money. Thank you.
