Still working on it but it's turning out real cute. The instructions are well written.

I am completely new to crochet and found the instructions and written directions easy to follow. I have yet to begin one of the puppets though because every time I try to complete the practice steps, the yarn unravels half way through and I get frustrated and quit. I am only hooking 1 or 2 strands of yarn and am finding it difficult to complete.I may just go and purchase my own, good quality yarn to complete. Just beware, this isn't the best quality.

Not all beginner crochet kits are created equal, and this one is a home run! Has all the resources if you're a complete beginner, and is easy to start if you're experienced. Would recommend!

I really like his fragile looking feet and his cute expression. He’s adorable :) People in the house like to use him as a fidget toy. Everyone says his tail looks a bit weird. I thought the bright pink tail was awkward, so I made it the same color as his body so it looks a bit less strange. There’s crochet in the round and flat crochet so it’s probably better as a second project as it’s a lot to have to learn both at the same time. At least it was for me. If you already know how to crochet in the round, or flat crochet, it shouldn’t be too hard for you :)Stitches/Difficulty:Chain StitchCrochet in the RoundDouble Crochet***Half Double Crochet **Magic RingSingle CrochetSingle Crochet DecreaseSingle Crochet IncreaseSlip StitchMost Rounds in a Part: 36Most Stitches in a Row: 15The more asterisks the rarer the stitch is for a kit. There are a few stitches to learn for this kit. It was a fast project, too. I finished it in about a day’s worth of free time. I thought it was pretty easy, but this was my one hundred and first crochet project and I’ve been crocheting for almost a year a half now :)Instructions:Paper: The instructions in the pattern booklet were really clear (it used the same abbreviations and format that most of the other ones I’ve tried on Amazon) and I had no issues with them. There is also a separate booklet that shows how to do all the stitches with photographs and explains the concepts, abbreviations and how to read the patterns.Video: There is a QR code to access the videos. You’ll need a QR code reader like “camera” on an iPad. There is also a URL printed for you, if you prefer typing one in :)>>Tip: Use embroidery scissors to stuff the yarn tails into your axolotl after you’ve sewn it through it a couple times. It makes things a lot easier and it’s faster, too.Materials:The yarn is the jersey knit tube kind that a lot of people like, but I don’t. It’s the thinner kind which is easier on my wrist than the thicker kind. Real yarn never hurts my wrists and is faster and teaches you how to use the needle better so I wish the companies would go back to the milk cotton yarn. It’s so much faster and feels so much softer. I digress! Oh, there was more than enough yarn to finish :) The hook is a slower beginner’s hook. It’s the same ones that comes with most other kits. The stitch markers work well. The metal tapestry needle is easier to thread and slips through my stitches easily. I like these better than plastic ones :) The safety eyes come with the backs (yay!). I didn’t use the snippers because I have a hard time using them. I had enough stuffing, too. This is the good stuffing that it’s easy to pass tapestry needles through :)What I Did Different:I didn’t like the hot pink on his tail, so I just used the same color pink as his body. I hate sewing parts to crochet plushies, so I crocheted his arms and legs directly to his body. I also when from his head directly to his body so I didn’t have to sew it. If you want to do the same, here’s what you do:Skip round 15 of the head and go directly to the last round of the body (round 11). Start at that last row and go backwards. Every time you see an inc, do a dec. Every time you see a dec, do an inc. So for example for Round 11 of the body, you’d be doing:1ch, (2sc, inc)*6 ties, ss If you think his neck lacks definition, thread the same color yarn around his neck (go over a stitch, then under a stitch and repeat) and tighten it before securing it inside the plushie.
