The concept is great, but this smoker attachment is awkward to use. The V-shape fits between two flavorizer bars on a Weber Spirit grill; add smoker pellets and then turn on the grill. So far so good. Unfortunately, the pellets can easily overheat and then catch fire which throws off the whole temperature control capability that is a key benefit of using a gas grill. I've tried dampening the pellets, I've played with the burner settings. I've tried using different quantitied of pellets... I still use it occasionally, but this continues to be a work in progress.

Had one, this is a purchase of a 2nd one for 3 burner gas grill. Placed on both sides of middle burner, it increases smoking surface and more effectively infuses food with smoke flavor. Then finish searing/cooking off to the side. Durable, easy to use, reasonable to clean. Not a substitute for hardcore bbq smoking, but handy for those limited to using a gas grill.

I’ve only used it twice so far, but both times it performed very well. The fact that the box sits on the heat bars allows the wood chips to begin smoking quickly, and maintain the smoke. It’s important to soak the chips first and to lower the heat on the burner under the box after the smoke gets going. I think some of the negative reviews are because users are leaving the burners on a high setting, causing the chips to burn too quickly and the smoker to deform. And don’t leave the empty box in the grill when not using it to smoke. If this smoker lasts a few seasons it will be worth it and will have earned my 5 stars.

The triangular shape means that the smoker box sits neatly on heat diffuser bars. This means that the box can be positioned close to the gas flame although you have to be careful not to have the flame too high to prevent the wood chips from burning rather than smouldering. With a bit of experimenting the ideal positioning and flame level can be achieved without too much difficulty.

I really like this box and it fit into my Napolean grill perfectly. I was able to add 3 loads of wood before having to empty the ash.

This thing works perfectly. It is made of metal and is not stainless steel so a light coat of oil on occasion will keep it from rusting or maybe you should consider storing it indoors if your grill is prone to moisture. Mine still looks fine. I use it on a Weber Genesis S330. I am surprised this smoker has anything less than 4 star reviews. It performs exactly as it should and give a great smoke flavor to my ribs and pork butt which is what I mainly use it for.A few tips for gas grill use. You'll notice many gas grills have openings on the side to attach a rotisserie. Take some foil and close up those holes to keep the smoke in. I also take a long strip of foil and run it along the back edge of my grill to close up the opening where the lid meets the box.Don't worry it's perfectly safe to do this considering that smoking is a low temperature cooking method. It would be very bad to do this at high temps but it is fine for smoking and helps keep the smoke in.Someone in another review complained that they had to remove both grates to refill the smoker box. I don't understand why. I leave the grate off the left side, put the smoker box between the first and second burners and turn on one or both of those burners to get my temp up to about 225 with the cover down. I put the meat on the far right side, on the grate with a drip pan underneath it filled about a 1/4 way with water. This is an indirect cooking method and really the proper way to smoke a piece of meat like ribs or butts (cant argue with science). Once I get the temp dialed in to 225 or so, I put the meat on with the cover down and let it smoke.Another cool trick is to lightly spray your seasoned meat with water once or twice during the first couple hours of cooking because smoke is water soluble and this helps the smoke cling to and penetrate the meat.I like that the wedge shape allows it to sit down between the flavorizer bars. My old one balanced on top and it was a pain to use.So lets review: It's not stainless so you need to take care of it to prevent or minimize rust. But even if it gets rusty, so what. It still works. For the majority of grills, you would not have to remove both grates to refill it. The smoker box does not need to be directly beneath the meat to get the smoky flavor, especially if you use a bit of foil to close some of the openings.

while this wont give the performance of a specialized smoker, it does add a slight smokey flavor to grilled foods. it fits perfectly in grill. the only thing is the large version is just a tad wider than a single grate, so dont expect to just lift a grate and drop it in. you wont be able to open its lid if you dont lift both grates either. so as long as you realize that you will have to either lift both grates or tilt it to get it into or out of the grill, you will be fine. i dont see that as a problem myself. it is still much easier to work with than the annoying cast iron box thing i had before. this fits right on the burner and heats up the wood chips quickly and easily.so far this has performed well. i soak wood chips in water, fill the box, and drop it in the grill before i light it up. it doesnt take long for that delicious smoky aroma wafts around the neighborhood. its worked well on all settings from low to high. i have no issues with any warping or twisting.i had taken it out & emptied it while cleaning the grill one day and forgot that i did. it was out in the rain for a couple days. that created some surface rust on the interior but nothing that i am worried about.even if it only lasts half a season, it is reasonable enough in price that i wouldnt mind buying another one. it works for what i want. i am happy with it and would recommend to anyone with a gas grill to add that hint of smoke to your grilled foods.
