The adapter works as expected. You have to do a firmware first but that is pretty easy to do. Once you have the latest firmware going it works a treat. Special note: this adapter does not support VRR.

I had done a borderline unhealthy amount of research on this since I have an AMD GPU (6900 XT) running Linux (Bazzite) and wanted to get an adapter that could handle 4k 120hz VRR and RGB 4:4:4 color. I took a leap of faith on this adapter and it works flawlessly.I give this 4 stars because enabling HDR will make my screen go black as if there's no input (when there is) and can only be recovered if I remove the adapter, plug in just HDMI, then turn off HDR, then plug the adapter back in. I can live without HDR since I prioritize higher and smoother framerates over image quality. However, I know this might be a big deal for some. This is another thing that I know is a problem with my use case and distro but isn't a fault of the adapter (I think). Bazzite has this known issue where HDMI audio will crackle and stutter, this issue is present whether I use the adapter or not. I notice it happens more frequently when I have the adapter in, but I'm not willing to fully fault the adapter for this because I wasn't expecting this issue to be magically fixed once I started using it. Just something to be aware of for others with my use case. I'm planning on buying a sound bar to work around this and upgrade my audio, but that's unrelated to this.Overall, solid adapter and recommended for anyone on Linux using an HTPC!

Disclaimer:4k 120Hz is not supported out of the box, it will require manual tweakingThe process of enabling it is straight forward and requires less than 5 minutes of work. You will require a Windows machine with a DisplayPort to plug in and flash the adapter. The firmware and instructions are found online after searching:DP/USB-C/Thunderbolt 3/4 to HDMI 2.1 4k@120hz RGB4:4:4 10b HDR with Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3 now possible !The Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI 2.1 solved all my issues. I've long wanted to embrace the one cable life with my Macbook but always had to compromise. All docks I've come across are limited to 4k 60Hz when connected to Macs just like the HDMI port on the device itself. This adapter was outstanding and singlehandedly resolved my issue. Using the firmware update tools and an older firmware version I was able to utilize the DP 1.4 port on my dock and display 4K 120Hz HDR to my TV.If you're planning to replicate this, for the smoothest experience ensure the adapter is the 102101-BLK model and you're using a certified HDMI 2.1 cable. The build quality on the adapter is great, even though it's made of plastic it is durable and doesn't get as warm as other adapters.Highly recommend this adapter!

Most adapters don't actually support 8K60Hz@10bpp!This one does. Most adapters don't support 8K60Hz@10bpp via DSC with an active fiber-optic HDMI 2.1 cable attached. This one does.Even the adapters which do support the above (like the UpTab one) have issues - they get too hot, and flicker randomly. This one does not overheat, it does not flicker. It just works. It even works through a DP KVM switch!Given how bad most products are these days, color me impressed that this one actually genuinely does what it says on the box! (which is a very sad, very low bar, but alas, here we are...)Also, the blue LED is a VERY NICE TOUCH when debugging your setup!

This is a very simple review: this adapter is exceptionally glitchy, unstable, and simply doesn't work as advertised.Use case: MSI GTX 1060 6GB Gaming X that I simply wanted to get a 4k@120Hz signal out of.The DP version for this card is 1.4; the required version for this adapter.I used both a certified 8K/4K@120Hz HDMI 2.1 cable and the cable from the Xbox Series X (also 8k/4K@120Hz certified.)Finally, I have a 77" LG C3 with a 4K@120Hz-enabled HDMI 2.1 ports.Expectation: the computer turns on and displays the option to set it to 120Hz mode.Reality: it turns on and Windows 11 Pro gives you the option to set to 120Hz, at which point the TV freaks out and displays horrible "snow" like it's CRT trying to tune into an non-existent VHF signal.Fine, turn it off and back to 60Hz. It works fine at 60Hz. (So does HDMI 1.4...), let's try to restart the computer.Oh, now the computer hangs and has absolutely no display output on HDMI or DP on this or a Viewsonic (blah blah blah irrelevant 27" 1440P monitor.)Cool.Remove the adapter and restart, now it displays on both, unplug the monitor, set back to 120Hz, and still distortion.Google: "Firmware update to enable DP 1.2 and 1.4 features on Pascal-generation cards (10xx): "Some... 1030 [Doesn't support DP, LOL Nvidia], 1050, 1060, 1070, and 1080 and all variants, i.e. 1080ti cards might not support 1.2 and 1.4 features until this firmware update is applied."Okay, let's install that. Computer restarted and hung again, restart again with no adapter plugged in, comes up fine.Annnd it still goes snow mode when you set it to 120Hz mode.Re-running the firmware update tells me it's on the correct version.Other suggested resolutions from other reviewers: turn off G-sync in Nvida Control Panel, enable HDMI Deep Color on the TV, try Game Mode, latest drivers, etc.It simply doesn't perform the advertised task of converting a DP 1.4 port into a HDMI 2.1 port, despite all other pieces supporting the signal. My Series X runs at 4K120 all day long. My TV reports all of the checkboxes work with the system. (The LG C3 has 3 identical inputs with the remaining one simply supporting eARC, they all support the same inputs. For grins, I did try all 4.)Nvidia control panel didn't let me see or set set anything above 60Hz. I made a custom resolution and the TV freaked out when I applied it. I did try changing RGB/YCb Cr4:2:0, and 4:2:2 but it didn't like any of them. Also, as reported by others, even at 4K 60, the audio drops out randomly with 5.1, Dolby, and DTS content. This seems to be a bug as well.)Cable Matters states on their website: For dedicated graphics, an Nvidia RTX 2060/3060 or an AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series or newer graphics are required to achieve 8K@60Hz video. 4K@120Hz and 8K support may require a firmware update on some 8K TVs. 4K@120Hz and 8K support must be manually enabled on some 8K TVs. VRR/G-Sync/FreeSync are not supported.(The first statement is false, as you can easily get 8K60 working on 10000-series cards over DP 1.4 when it's true DP -> DP.)Now, Cable Matters' website has a firmware update option for the 102101, but mine is already on the latest 7.02.120 version available. The specs, asterisks, and warnings all pertain to: requiring DP 1.4 and requiring a 2000 or 3000 series card for this to work at 8K. They all say you might need to update the software on your card, TV, and adapter. That's all done. It doesn't workAn adapter shouldn't hang a computer when it starts up... ever.I'm officially out of ideas and patience. It's going back to Amazon.

I'm getting 4K VRR 144hz on an Asus 4090 to Hisense U7K. The cable you use matters. Had to try a few of my 8K Hdmi cables until I got it working. Nvidia control panel will let you apply G SYNC too. Currently running 55" triple screen 4K 144hz VRR with HDR and 8bit Full RGB. No flicker.I do have one issue and that is when starting the PC from shut down, the screen with the adapter will turn of with a RED TINT. I fix it by going into the TV INPUT SETTINGS and reaffirm I want Enhanced 144/240hz and it will resume working as intended. However if I start the PC from sleep I have no problem with a red screen. Works perfectly fine. For some reason I don't know if it's the TV or adapter but I can NOT get 4k 120hz VRR. I tried all input settings on the TV, Windows 11, and Nvidia Control panel. It just didn't want to do 4k 120hz VRR. It will do 4k 120hz however without the VRR. It's strange because it will give me 144hz VRR but not 120hz? Welp as long as it works is all that matters. Hope this helps.

Edit: well it lasted about 6 weeks and then crapped out. My computer kept disconnecting it and then reconnecting it every couple of seconds. Device manager would refresh like it had detected new hardware and my mouse would freeze and the computer would make a beep sound like when removing a USB cable. It constantly does this every couple of seconds. Completely unusable now. I sent the company an email through Amazon's link but they never responded. It's an external link through Amazon so you're not dealing with them through Amazon like most of the products on Amazon. Amazon sent me an automated survey I guess they like to know if these external link companies honor their warranties or whatnot. I submitted the Amazon questionnaire but never heard from Amazon either. So that was a complete waste of money to only last a little over a month. What sucks is I also bought a fiber optic 30 ft HDMI cable at the same time that was capable of 120 HZ which I only needed to use with this adapter. If I'm not using 120 HZ DisplayPort HDMI adapter the cables I had worked fine at 60 HZ. So now I'm back to 60 hertz and an extra HDMI cable that I didn't need. Plus I wasted the cost of the DisplayPort adapter. So needless to say if you're looking for something like this stay clear of this company.I have a home theater PC with an NVIDIA GTX 1070 video card. I would run a HDMI cable from the card to my Yamaha CX-A5100 processor and then the Yamaha video out would go to my TV. I just recently bought an LG OLED TV that has 120 hertz refresh rate. My Yamaha processor and the HDMI port on the Nvidia graphics card did not support HDMI 2.1 so I could not get 120 Hz. Then I heard that there was a firmware update for the DisplayPort for the GTX 1070 to allow it to get 4k and HDR at 120 HZ. I was happy to find this DisplayPort to HDMI adapter at an affordable price so I thought I would give it a try. This thing works perfectly! I also bought a 30 ft fiber optic HDMI 2.1 cable to go with it because my other HDMI cables were not 2.1. Now I can go directly from the display port of my graphics card to my TV's HDMI input and get 120 HZ and 4K resolution and HDR. I then run the HDMI out from the GTX 1070 to my Yamaha processor for audio. I just select which device I want audio to go through from the speaker icon in the taskbar. I select my TV if I want audio to go to the TV and I select my Yamaha if I want DTS master or Dolby Atmos audio to go to my processor. Everything works like a charm. This saved me the cost of having to upgrade to a new $600 video card to get HDMI 2.1 when the GTX 1070 was sufficient for h.265 and other processing needs that I have. For the price of this adapter you can't go wrong. Everything is as stable as it could be there is no flickering or communications issues it works like a charm. Give it a try there's no reason why you won't be happy.
