Works as advertised. Except after the first year of use the metal spiral that goes around the cord rusts. Turns your animals water into rusty water. I bought two and it has happened on both of them. I would buy another type.

What is not to like, the bird bath/ bucket de-icer is great, has a 6 ft cord with anti-chew protector on the cord, can be used even in a plastic container. I absolutely love it, I live in Nebraska & use it faithfully in my birdbath in the winter months. The 6 ft cord I recommend because on all de-icers because it gives you plenty of cord to drape it over the birdbaths rimTo plug it in an extension cord comfortably. If you get a de-icer with only 18 inch cord, it’s not as easy to plug it in & most of the time you should place it in the center of your birdbath with a shorter cord you can not do that. I always have an extra de-icer on hand because if it’s extremely cold my birdbath begins to ice over where the heat doesn’t reach in the water. So highly recommend purchasing 2 when you get them. Why? Because you don’t want your water freezing over especially if your local hardware or farm supply store is out of them. Because I found a lot of birders feed & water year around & should you live in a small town your local stores will have them all sold out on you. Have an extra on hand for your birds.

Our horses drink more than twice the amount of water when it's not icy. I won't ever not have these deicers again.
