The AmScope SE400X professional stereo microscope has interchangeable pairs of 5x and 10x widefield eyepieces, a 1x objective, LED lighting, and a boom-arm stand. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 50 to 77mm and a 30-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain. The interchangeable pairs of WF5x18mm and WF10x18mm eyepieces combine with the 1x objective to provide 5x and 10x magnification, and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

The 1W LED light is mounted on a flexible gooseneck to enable users to direct the light as needed. An LED light source provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive specimens. The microscope has a 13.5" pillar that provides a 9" vertical working distance. Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The 17" boom arm has a 12" working distance. The microscope head can be rotated on the X- and Y-axes. All metal construction is durable and stain-resistant.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

My Repair Tech Loves this microscope! He can see so much better and obviously much smaller smaller harder to do jobs. Made my money back on 2 jobs. A+I will say however, if you've never had a microscope before and you have a standard voltage size heat gun you may have to upgrade your heat gun as well as a few other tools. Such as a magnet mat and or a clamp arm. Also my repair guy uses another light on top of the one that comes with this microscope. So the light to some people may not be bright enough. Although appears to be plenty bright.

This is a good economy scope. Fit and finish are good on the price point. Just started engraving and this is a huge help. X5 is a little tight for engraving. I've contacted AmScope and asking if they make or they know of someone that make eyepieces that fit the scope in X2 and x3. Bang for the buck, it's well worth it.

I was interested in the more expensive model, but settled on this one. No one would ship to my APO adress was the only reason. I need up settling for this scope instead. I'm using this for soldering and inspecting smd components. This thing is great and I don't regret it one bit. I've found the 10x lenses are perfect for what I've been doing. It's so much easier to solder these small components and find loose and dry solder joints. I highly recommend it, I don't think you will be disappointed. The price is very reasonable for the quality you get. Everything is solid and looks like very good quality. The optics are crystal clear with no distortion that I can see. I was a bit concerned about the Led not being bright enough, but it works great and I like the flexible shaft for pointing the light where I need it. The working space is great and I can comfortably look through it for an hour or more without much fatigue. This is by far one of the most useful components in my lab next to my Hakko soldering station. Worth every penny.I am using this in England and plugged it right into 220v, it works great with no problems at all with dual voltage.

Outstanding Microscope! I am in the business of mobile device repair, there are two types of shops. There are hardware replacement shops, screens, batteries etc. and then there is logic board repair where a quality microscope is a must. I can now confidently move into logic board repair. The microscope is easy to set up, it took me less than 30 minutes before I had a MacBook motherboard under it looking around! All the adjustments are pretty simple and the optics are outstanding. I really do not have a downside however if you are looking to get the microscope close to an object this may not be the one for you, it is made with the intent to give ample working space between the lease and the object being examined. You can somewhat overcome this with different lenses I believe. For what I do it is perfect!

It works well as a 10X microscope, and the price is reasonable. But the 5X eyepieces are basically useless, because the field of view is no different than at 10X. The view at 5X is like looking thru a dark tunnel -- you see the same area you see at 10X, but smaller.

Great microscope! I am very impressed with this, it is a great value and the working distance is fantastic. I am a copper plate engraver and wanted this for detailed passages. The built in light is not quite enough to engrave by but lighting engraving is inherently difficult so this did not surprise me. I agree with previous reviews that the field of view for the 5x is somehow significantly less than the 10x, I would think it would be the opposite. It is still of use to me but I dont get why it is this way. So far this is the only disappointment. Great optics for the money, I was looking for a scope on craigslist and was going to buy a worse scope for more money with no accessory options, I'm happy I waited. Great scope.

Just took delivery and the scope is exactly what I need. I'm a beginning engraver and the nine inch focal distance is more than adequate for work clearance. I'm impressed with the bright, clear image and the 5x and 10x oculars give me all the magnification I need. 15x oculars are available for this scope but I don't think they're needed for engraving, or soldering. If you're studying the structure of one-celled organisms, maybe the 15x is for you and they're only another $35 if I remember correctly. The boom could be a little longer but I can fix that pretty easily in my metal shop. For soldering it's fine the way it is, but I plan on extending it out over a ball vise, so more length would be useful. I've used my instructor's Meiji, which costs more than ten times what I paid for the AmScope, and his ring light is way better than the single LED that comes with this AmScope, but I can supplement the light with an inexpensive clamp light. When I add that, I think the image will be just as good as what I see in the Meiji. The photo was taken with my cell phone held up to the eyepiece, and the view is not bad, but it's way better when looking through both eyepieces. Also, the photo illustrates the shadow issue with one LED illumination. More light is needed to eliminate shadows. I expected that and already have plans for the extra light to attach when I finish setting up my bench. Couldn't be happier and the delivery was on time and as promised. Except for one more thing, there was no user manual in the packaging. The AmScope web site says their download page is coming soon and that they will email the manual if I utilize their contact page. I did and will see how long it takes for them to email the manual. Anybody with any experience at all with a microscope will not need the manual anyway. I'd just like to have it, so I asked for it, and we shall see what they do for customer service. The manual, boom length, and light are negligible when I consider how nice the image is, so that's why I'm sticking with five stars.
