If you want evenly spaced markings, say 1”, then the first few line up with 1” marks on a ruler, then they start getting askew. Definitely not a reliable measuring tool.

Flimsy junk. Once you get it open it doesn’t close well I folded mine into a ball trying to get it to close up.

You will want to carefully expand and retract it a few times. It is a little rough on the edges, but for what I need it for it's perfect. I'm making a dress for a wedding and it has 15 button holes. This guide will make it so much easier to not only space the button holes but it has markings so you can have better uniformness from the edge, Honestly if you sew it's a great investment.
