Bought this to install on a Thule Canyon XT Basket for our spare since we went to a bigger tire. Required drilling of new holes since it's not intended for a Thule Basket, but the fitment is great and very sturdy. Love the design with a padlock to prevent theft. **The padlock does not come with the kit** We used a Master Lock 312D Weatherproof Padlock. You can find it here on Amazon.

Works for Thule basket with simple modification. All I had to do was drill 4 new holes in the bottom plate because the distance between the Thule basket bars are wider than the Yakima. The holes I drilled are exactly 4 inches apart from the center of the holes (you’re welcome). Then I just sprayed the holes I drilled with black paint. Other than that no other modifications were needed and it all fit together perfectly. I don’t have a full size tire up there, I have a donut spare tire to save on weight, so it works well with a thin tire as well. Easier for me to lift on and off the rack cause I’m a small lady. But it’s a 10/10 for me, super simple to install.

Installed this carrier on a Tyger brand cargo basket. I believe it will work with most any cargo basket with the right modification. I simply marked the back plate where new bolts should be run, then stopped by a machine shop and had them drill new holes for me. If you have a drill press, you can probably do it at home, but the shop only charged me $10. Not bad for a clean looking set up.The carrier itself has a pretty thick powder coat on it and is nice and sturdy. I appreciate the design elements they implemented, such as a carrier bolt to prevent the wheel plate from spinning out of place and the ability to lock it.All in all, it's pretty high priced for what it is, but it seems sturdy and well designed. I hope that this thing proves its worth by lasting us a good long while. For what it's worth, this carried my wife's full spare from Texas to Alaska without any issues.

This tire mount is super well made out of quality materials. Heavy Duty parts make you confident it will stay put and gives you piece of mind that your tire isn't going anywhere. Can confirm it fits not only Yakima Roof Racks, but many others as well. Perfect fit for my MaxxHaul Roof Rack found right here on Amazon. No modification needed. Fits just like it would on a Yakima Rack. 100 bucks seems a bit excessive for a couple parts and bolts at first, but when you actually put it together, you can tell it's made of quality materials and uses solid parts, making the price very much worth it. Quality parts and solid fit make this the go-to tire mount for any Roof Rack.2020 Jeep Compass High AltitudeMaxxHaul Roof Rack18" Full Spare Tire

The Yakima Spare Tire Carrier is a lot more beefy and heavy duty than I anticipated. All of the components are well made. Once clamped downtightly on the tire/rim, everything seems very sturdy and secure. I originally though it was a little overpriced, but after seeing the quality of the parts, I think it's a pretty good value. The ability to padlock the large screw-down piece is a welcome feature. I am using it to secure a 215/70R-16 Grabber AT2 to a cargo basket on a 2005 Forester.Speaking of which, for anyone with a Curt cargo basket (like me), this Yakima mount *juuust* fits, with a little muscle. The spacing is a little more narrow on the bottom bars, so the mounting screws go in (again just barely) at an angle. With everything tightened down, however, the base plate (as well as everything else) seems very secure. I will certainly be checking on this during upcoming trips to make sure this remains true. I may end up re-drilling the holes on the baseplate at a later time. For a Yakima rack this was designed for, I have no doubt that it fits perfectly with little effort to attach.***UPDATE***After 14 months+ of driving, some of which were up to 1600 mi round trips, as well as rough off roading, the Yakima Spare Tire Carrier is on as solid as the day I installed it. I have had the spare off multiple times (it actually gets rotated with my other 4 tires), so it certainly has seen some use. Highly recommended. Based on its performance, I'm bumping it up a star (although I wish I could 1/2 a star because I still think it's a little overpriced for what it is, but oh well).

This product is amazing and works amazing. It was very expensive for what it is though.

Great product, I didn't realize it came with the ability to lock as well. Can be adapted easily to fit other roof carriers and baskets. I have mine mounted on a Curt roof basket. Handles my 35" tires with ease.

I have a Yakima LoadWarrior cargo basket, and this Yakima spare tire carrier is designed to go with it. Therefore, the installation was very simple, and the system seems bomb-proof. Drove a thousand miles with a full-size spare just last week, and while the aerodynamics obviously are diminished on the car (what would you expect from throwing a full-size spare on the roof of a car?), the tire seemed very secure because it is very strongly locked down onto the LoadWarrior cargo basket. And not only is the tire securely attached to the cargo basket, but the tire carrier also allows you to lock the tire to the cargo basket with a padlock. Very convenient. I wouldn't generally like the idea of traveling at 80 mph with a 45 pound tire on my roof, but this Yakima system of cargo basket and tire carrier bolted down to it makes you forget it's even there (except for a bit of added noise from the wind, though this is mitigated somewhat by the Yakima fairing attached to the front of the cargo basket). Super secure. And I'm not driving some big truck, either. All of this equipment is on top of a small 3-series BMW sedan, and it still feels solid, even cornering at high speed. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone who wants or needs to travel with a full-size spare. And on top of all that, there is still room left in the cargo basket for other gear.
