I got this to do soil samples in the garden to send to the extension office. It was way more inexpensive than the other ones out there and work just great. I was even soiled sampling in hard compacted soil and it did great. I did wait till after rained a little bit so the soil wasn't so hard but worth saving a little extra money.

I bought this (40" model) to sample the soil in my yard. I am very pleased by my purchase. This is a very solid unit, well-machined and constructed, and the material seems high-quality. Easy to assemble (They even included 2 10 mm wrenches for assembly.) It cuts very easily, even into tough, dry dirt. Makes sampling a breeze. The only problematic part was the packaging. It arrived with two large holes in the box, and some loose items rattling around. I'm astonished that all the parts made it to me. (Word to seller--you have an excellent product--use a stronger box!) But since they did, 5 stars.

This product works, but be very careful using it. The edges identified in the pic are razor blade sharp. I sliced my finger open getting soil out of the thing. Use caution.

This tool for taking soil samples is very solid. It does not flex or bend when penetrating the soil, or when twisting it while in the ground. I've read reviews that say the soil sample is difficult to exrtact once you pull it from the ground. While that is true, it's to be expected. People have unreasonable expectations. They expect the soil to just fall right out of the tube once they pull it out of the ground. You have to realize you are trying to retrieve soil that is very compacted. When I use this item, the soil is damp so it is easier to penetrate. However, removing the soil from the tool is a challenge. But, I use a steel rod to push the soil sample out of the tool. I haven't used ot when the soil is dry, so I can't review it under those conditions. Othewise, it is an excellent tool. Sturdy and worth the money.

This is a quality tool. It is built to last a lifetime. Nice sharp cutting edge. Heavy grade of stainless steel. Simple and effective. Pulling dirt plugs is not as easy as you would think it should be but this tool worked for me. Well worth the money.

Built sturdy... stainless steel...works good... but when you take the dirt out don't use your finger... unless you will cut it...very sharp on the edge and sides where the soil groove is located. Use a screwdriver or wood dowel to remove the dirt not your finger unless you file down the edge but that'll defeat the purpose of the sharp edge being able to cut through roots and get the job done efficiently.
