When I first purchased this soil probe rod, it worked great and performed exactly as expected. It was sturdy, easy to use, and helped me complete my tasks efficiently. However, over time, I’ve noticed that the rod has started to bend around the connection point. The bending has gradually worsened, and it’s now almost to the point where it’s difficult to use effectively. While the initial performance was impressive, the long-term durability seems to be an issue, especially when used in tougher conditions. For example, in harder soils—such as compacted soil in high-traffic areas, dry or drought-affected ground, or soil with a significant amount of clay—it seems the stress on the rod causes it to bend more easily. I would recommend this product for lighter tasks in softer or well-aerated soil but would advise caution if you plan to use it in more challenging conditions like those mentioned.

I liked the probe and the fact that it comes apart for easy storage. Be careful not to put a lot of pressure on it as far as moving it back and forth in the ground once it's in. I broke mine at one of the threads. The company made it good and took care of it for me. Great company taken care of business.

We went out of town and had a downpour every day back at the house while we were gone. When we got back, not only was the yard flooded, but the French drains were not only clogged up but completely covered over with mud to the point that I couldn't find them. I finally found one but knew I was missing others. I had a reasonable idea where they were but short of digging up what grass was left in our yard after that debacle, I needed an alternative to find them. The company that comes to weed and feed our yard had one of these and realized I should've bought one of these a long time ago.It comes in 3 pieces and if I were to suggest any improvement, it would be that I wish this were 1 solid piece. Obviously, it's easier to ship 3 shorter pieces plus the handle but it has worked its way loose a couple of times. That's not a deal breaker because while the bottom piece with the sharp tip is stuck in the ground as a result, I can just screw the other pieces back in.It found our other drains quickly and I aerated the yard in the process of locating them which was a bonus. A shovel did the rest of the work to clean out around each one and we are now ready for the next rain so I can test out the drains again.

I used it to find and track a 5” black corrugated plastic pipe we installed in the yard for drainage 10 years ago. The depth started at an inch and over the route increased to 10”. This probe worked well and easily went through the soil at each depth. I had to retighten one connection but was very slight and only once. I’m glad I didn’t spend more on one of the higher priced options.

After the first round of probing for vole tunnels in a small garden, the probe got bent. The probe was probably used 8 to10 times in this round. In the second round, which was following some rain a few months later, the probe broke. It comes in 3 pieces, which you have to assemble. The joints are not strong enough for the intended use.

Solid and proper length.Putting all my weight on in will arch it a bit but it keeps it's shape. It tends to unscrew if you don't turn it clockwise while probing.I'm glad I got the 48" model.I was looking for a septic main line and tank. The main has to be at around 48" deep, to avoid freezing, so this just made it.The septic was around 28" down. This worked perfectly, I found the line and the tank quickly.A shorter one would not of worked. It's still solid after going through some rough stuff. So my advice is always go longer then expected since topsoil can add up quickly.
