I purchased based on specs and reviews laudingits' impressions about being built to last and whenI received it I must agree with the reviewers opin-ions myself. This probe is heavy and strong. Willpost more after I actually put it to work.

I don't know what else to say but this is well made and has the features that I need: a sturdy metal pole of the proper length with a comfortable handle. The replaceable tips (you can go ball-nose or point, depending on your environment and/or risk tolerance -- the points may go through the soil more easily but can also go through plastic pipes and tubing more easily.) are a nice option and I bought a few of each.My soil is variable and we have clay at various levels. In addition to knowing how deep the water is penetrating, I use this to find the hard-packed clay layers that plants will never break through. No complaints whatsoever.

This probe is quite heavy (7/16" diameter probe), but it has turned out perfect for probing deeper (over 20 inches) in heavy, clay soil. The thickness makes the probe stiff and better for probing heavy soils. I dulled up the pointed end slightly on a grinder so I did not damage the PVC septic lines I was probing.

I wanted a probe long enough to reach my septic tank leach lines so I could build a fence without penetrating the lines. I wanted a probe that would not be too flexible because of the hard, dry clay soil in my area. This one does not bend easily since it is thicker than most. Unfortunately, the thicker rod is also harder to insert in the ground because of the amount of soil it has to displace.
