I bought my first woodriver plane about 6 months ago and my second one about 3 months later. By far the best planes I've ever used. So when I decided to upgrade from my old block plane these seemed to be the most obvious choice. They were cheaper as a set so I bought them both. First the good. They are both finished well. The blades hold an edge well. The low angle in particular is very comfortable to hold and use. The not so good is that both planes lock with the lever cap pulled back toward you. My old block plane locks with the lever cap pushed forward. The reason this sucks is because when you're pushing into the wood, the cap has a tendency to want to ride forward and pop open and unlock the blade. I can take exceptionally thin shavings with both planes but if I set the standard angle for a heavier cut it pops open. The low angle doesn't. I'm trying to retrain my hand on how to hold this block plane but years of muscle memory is hard to undo. I totally recommend the low angle block plane but the standard angle, at least for me is the first miss by woodriver. I gave these a four star rating because the low angle gets five stars but the standard angle gets three stars. Edit- the more I use them the more annoyed I am by the knuckle cap design. I wouldn't buy them again.
