I did not expect great quality at this price especially not for two but as l only dabble in woodworking as a hobby thought they would work for me. Being a precision engineer when l buy cheap tools l strip them down try to improve them so as with other comments l removed the thick layer of paint from the foot of the plane & squared off the oblong opening with a small file to make the blade sit correctly, made sure the two long studs (where the two brass adjusters fit ) were tight not as received. Gave them both a trial run & pleased to say both worked really well. I recommend that when you get the blade set ensure the two adjusters butt up to the bottom of the slots in the blade, this will ensure the blade does not push back up when in use, there is quite a lot off free play as the slots are a lot bigger than the shoulder on the brass adjusters.

I bought this in lieu of the expensive brands to work for now, it's okay. My blades came sharpened at an angle so I needed to figure out the adjustment so it would stop biting more off one side than the other. A bit rough having to consider this at first but it's still doing the job.If you're just starting out trying out the spokeshaves or only using it every now and then, they're decent enough to get you by but I'd recommend spending the extra money on a better one.

It was okay. The blades were little dull, but I think it will be a good tool for rough work

Yes, you definitely have to resharpen and straighten the blade before use, and yes, the bottom of the shave is coated in paint for some reason, but you can sand off the paint and sand the surface smooth. For the price, they're heavy duty and well made. Definitely worth more than five bucks a piece. And it has a chip breaker, which is great.

Like the other reviews said: sharpen the blade & sand or file the sole and you'll have a good tool. For the money, it's tough to beat.Once set up it works great. And there's a 2nd one and two blades. No complaints, just at know that you have to set it up before use.A $1500 guitar needs setup out of the box. So does a $12 spokeshave.

With a little (or a lot, the more the better) of elbow grease sharpening the blades you can get some fine shaving. In my experience any plane or chisel will need to be sharpened out of the package except for a very few higher end ones. Great value

Spend a few extra bucks and get a kunz or a Stanley. This spokeshave has basically no sole and it is very bad about chattering. The blades are good and I was able to put a good edge on them but I was disappointed in the spokeshave itself.

Let's get straight to the point on this one. These are just bad. You'll be lucky if you ever manage to make one of these work. It will likely take you longer than it took to make these tools. The replacement blades look like they were just taken out of a coal pile, the installed blades, while less charred, look like they might as well be blunted saw blades from how jagged and distorted they are, and the bases of the spokeshaves are so bumpy that using them is like riding a Rollercoaster. If you want to make these things usable, you'll have to sand the paint off the bases completely, sharpen the thin blades, and you will likely need to oil every part of it unless you like using other tools to adjust your tools. Not only do these not work out of the box, they might never worked at all. Your wood will cry in agony.Edit: After spending a good hour sanding off the paint from the base (which was impossible to do fully), sharpening the dull and jagged blade fully, and fine-tuning the blade mechanism for nearly another hour, this spokeshave is now usable. I advise you do this if you didn't buy these for decoration.
