Have shavings right out of the box on hard maple! Works even better after a proper honing.

Right out of the box, the finish and heft are impressive for a small tool. I expected a letdown from my old Stanley, But after putting a proper edge on the iron, this is a very nice and user friendly tool. I'm more than pleased for the price, it works as well as a plane I would have paid double for.

It's the best block plane for it's price point, but whether or not it's a good product depends on your use case. If you're a framer or need it for rough carpentry work, it's a great option. If you're a cabinetmaker or do any fine woodworking, you'll likely want to look at a better option (Lie-Nielsen, Veritas, etc.).In my experience, the sole wasn't flat and the iron bed was pretty roughly machined. The body isn't terrible but it isn't that precise either (though it's defects are mostly well covered by a thick body of paint). The mouth portion of the sole is visibly not in the same plane as the rest of the sole and has been strangely prone to rusting (but not the rest of the sole for some reason). The iron of course needed a fair bit of sharpening to be effective, though at that's generally true and especially so at this price point.

No, it is not made by the sixth generation of Swiss craftsman specializing only in hand planes using steel from the finest nickel iron meteors. This is a fine well built plane at a decent price. It works out of the box, but a careful sharpening and polish of the blade will make it even better. The most prestigious hand tool ever? Nope.Well built and good value for the monesy? Absolutely...

I had seen quite a few reviews about this plane before I decided to order. Seemed like a good value for the price. I'm a power tool guy, but I felt I needed to up my game by starting to learn more hand tools. I've never had much luck using a hand plane, but given the positive reviews on this one, I ordered it.Wow, I was so pleasantly surprised. Right out the box, I was able to get some pretty darn good shavings. After fiddling with the adjustments for a few minutes, I was able to get those smooth even shave ribbons that you see on YouTube. Sole seems really flat, and the iron is quite sharp. I will do some work flattening and sharpening it further. But, even without that, I got really good results; smoothing, chamfers, end grain, etc. Highly recommend.

I have been using this plane for about 5 days straight now laminating with veneer an antique sewing machine and I am very impressed by the sharpness and the quality. It even came nicely boxed with protective cloth to prevent corrosion. A thoughtful idea. It is very easy to dial in just the right amount of cut as well as the angle on the blade. The blade is extremely sharp and has not got dull after days of use. I love the comfort and fit of the feel of the tool. Very comfortable to hold. Love the vernier adjustment wheel it makes for accurate adjustment.

Nice, heavy, well made. Thick iron holds an edge. Its a Jorgenson, what did you expect. Quality like all their products. slight complaint, the adjustment slot in the blade could be a little tighter. Becoming my favorite plane, and I have a lot to choose from

out of the box very oily but thats good no rust, instutions say sole is flatened to .013 thousands but has machine marks on bottom, the intertior parts are all well machined and smooth, it took 2 hours and 5 sheets of 150 grit sand paper to flaten the sole , then 15 mintutes to polish to 2000 grit , the blade was flat and good bevel , 10 minutes touch up to 2000 grit , reassemble and works great , good value with a couple hours tuning up, didnt what to spend $150 for a box plane for hobby work need the 10 inch # 4 next
