On whole, this wireless HDMI kit is excellent even though it’s performance doesn’t match its product page description. Specifically, while it can downscale 4K video sources to 1080p, it doesn’t do this well when there is distance between the transceiver (TX) and receiver (RX) in my test. I had no issues with 1080p source material. My test was simplistic and by no means “scientific,” but I think gives a good idea of the capabilities of this kit. I put my laptop with the HDMI TX plugged into it at my garage level and started to stream a 4K video. The HDMI RX was plugged into a TV in my loft, about 40 ft above. The streaming quality on the TV was clear and colorful, no pixelization. However, there was visible picture and audio stuttering. This improved as I moved my laptop closer to the loft and when there was only about 10ft distance between the TX and RX the upscale picture was smooth. 10ft is a far cry from 196 ft., though I don’t know why someone would need 196ft. distance between the TX and RX.Streaming native1080p under these same conditions had much better results. Even when TX was in the garage level, the picture and audio 40 ft up was perfect. No video or audio lag. So, my conclusion on what the realistic uses for this kit is, it’s perfect for watching or presenting 1080p or lower source material. It’s not great for using to play 2K+ video or high-resolution video consoles or PCs.This kit has almost everything you need to start casting out of the box. I say “almost” because both the TX and RX sticks require power via USB-C as HDMI can’t power devices. A pair of 1ft USB-C to USB-A cables are included for this purpose. That might work for your TV on the RX end. Most TVs have a USB-A port for this reason. But on the TX side ports on laptops may be too close together or on the wrong side an you’ll need a longer cable. And if you are plugging into a Blu-ray or DVD player that doesn’t have a USB port you’ll need a regular USB charger to supply power. Basically, know where your USB ports are so you are prepared. In the box is the TX and RX HDMI sticks, two 1ft USB-C to USB-A cable, USB-C to HDMI adapter, HDMI to HDMI mini adapter, HDMI to HDMI micro adapter, and a HDMI male to female cable.Supposedly the TX and RX are paired out of the box. For whatever reason I had to re-pair might before I was able to get a connection. It was an easy enough process though. The TX adapter is recognized by my Macbook Pro immediately and it will mirror to the RX TV or I can use the RX TV as my main monitor. No drivers are supplied or mentioned so I imagine the Windows experience is similar.I don't have many gripes here but I do have one - there is no place to store the caps that protect the HDMI connectors when not in use. The result is, eventually, I'm going to lose them or forget them somewhere. If I could change one thing, I'd design it so the caps to snap into the back of each stick in the way a Magic Marker pen cap fits onto the back of the marker.

I was totally stoked about this wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver. I had visions of moving my desk by a window on a sunny day or into the alcove when I wanted to read, freedom! The desk is on sliders and the Bluetooth has a a powerful external antenna and the wireless HDMI can do prodigious distances -60 meters- so my short distance would certainly be a lag free cakewalk. I should have known I was in trouble when my dreams turned rosy because real life rarely is. Don't get me wrong, this is a quality product that I am going to try to, somehow, make it work. The problem is not with the quality or the technology, the problem is with the challenges I experienced while attempting to get it to work and use it. There was a moment when the experience of switching inputs on the monitor was totally transparent, and, indeed, it was, until I started trying to actually DO things. Only then, there was lag and the controls did not behave like they normally would, swipes of fingers on the trackpad would occasionally result in observable change. Given where I was when I switched back to the wired connection, there clearly was a problem. The rating reflects my frustration more than anything else. I did learn something, I have to supply electrical power to the devices and, while that is easy on a television set, it is much harder on a computer monitor, fortunately, the kit comes with cables of generous length and I was able, by being right behind the workstation, to draw power for the receiver from the computer.I am not trying to get this to work on some ancient, underpowered dinosaur, I will grant that an RX 580 is no longer a gamer video card, however, for what I need, it is powerful indeed. It isn't a 32gb of ram onboard CAD/CAM monster but it does what I need. Today, it was up to the task of testing these devices. Incidentally, be extra careful when putting them in, the HDMI ports are almost too close for the manner in which these devices are constructed, particularly, the way that the power cord comes out to the side. It is a 90 degree bent cable connector, however, it still occupies enough space that it could have easily separated the plug from the board through leverage.I do still believe that this would work out incredibly well for a PowerPoint presentation or for watching a movie --a tv's usb ports are far enough from the HDMI ports and the tv has spares. Right now, I do not believe that these devices would switch transmitters as easy as the photo of the happy office people would suggest. I believe that this is a very high quality product that will work wonderfully with a tv being uses as a monitor because there are powered USBs on the TV and the HDMI inputs are further apart than they are on the video card, at least, THIS video card. Check your equipment and add about a half inch to the left as you look at the back of your machine.Being human and fallible, I am going to try again tomorrow, I wish the manual had a troubleshooting section, I'd venture that I would be far less frustrated.
