Whiteside Machine Company has been in the router bit business for over 30 years providing customer with quality products while at the same time striving to achieve complete customer satisfaction. Several woodworking magazines have tested Whiteside versus the competition and selected Whiteside as the winner for best router bits available in the market. Whiteside Machine Company was founded in 1970 as a general purpose machine shop in the basement of Bill & Bobbie Whiteside's home. Located in Western North Carolina near the furniture manufacturing town of Hickory, the company was often involved in making repairs or special parts for the furniture and woodworking field. A strong commitment to customer problem-solving, a can-do attitude, and innovative ideas, along with a growing core of dedicated employees, helped the business evolve into a manufacturer of woodworking equipment and tooling. Primarily through repeat business and referrals, the tooling business continued to grow to meet a demand for quality production router bits as well as custom application tooling. Today, Whiteside Machine occupies a 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and produces a complete line of solid carbide and carbide tipped router bits. Whiteside's quality, innovation, and customer commitment is still present in our superb product line, in the design of custom tooling to fill special customer requirements, and in the development of special machinery and tooling for our own manufacturing use. As always, Whiteside Machine is continuously striving to improve our product through new technology, improved production techniques, and ongoing research and development efforts; along with rigid quality control, vital customer feedback and extensive field testing. It’s the best. It works perfectly. Cost the most but worth every penny.

I used my laser cutter to make myself custom inlay templates and got this kind of result after only 3 tries using cheap wood. Absolutely fantastic.

I made my Granddaughter a guitar shaped cutting board from Maple and inlaid it with Walnut and Mahogany. I’m very happy with the accuracy of this bit. The inlays fit like a glove. The only thing is that some square corners have to be rounded slightly with sandpaper to fit. Just have to be careful and not sand to much.

Works very well but seems a tad pricey. Not much to do about it as the Whiteside is considered the best.

First time using an inlay kit. I was adding a couple of bow ties to a 350 lb table top and couldn’t afford to make a mistake. Was familiar with this brand from woodworking magazine reviews. It worked perfectly — made me look like I knew what I was doing. There are cheaper options but I didn’t want to risk ruining my project over a few bucks.

I read reviews for other inlay kits and found that many were disappointed when the bit broke. I believe most users were making cuts too deep or too fast...or both. This bit, or any other 1/8" diameter bit, is not designed to make deep plunge cuts for structural inlays (dutchmen). It is designed to make recesses for thin inlays only. Read the directions...they say to make your cut only as thin as the inlay. Inlay is typically a very thin veneer, perhaps only a few millimeters thick. For that this kit performs flawlessly. The Whiteside kits is well engineered and very well made. It's American quality and that speaks for itself.

I am very pleased with the quality and fit and finish of the parts in this kit. I have used it a number of times with both purchased and homemade templates. The inlay pieces fit nicely with a minimum of preparation and with no gaps between the inlay and the work piece. This was my first experience with Whiteside products ----- in fact, I never heard of the company before this purchase. The picture is a teapot stand and coaster with an inlay of a chrysanthemum for a Chinese tea room. I made my own templates for the various parts of the flower. Although it's a bit amateurish, it shows what you can do with the kit and a minimum of inlay skills. So, today I was looking for some router bits for mortising and discovered that Whiteside makes those too. Based on my experience with this kit and the excellent reviews of the router bits, I decided to go with Whiteside again. Move over Freud. You've got some stiff competition here in the States.
