Well made and cut smoothly. Only used once so don’t have a lot of experience with this bit but I am expecting a long life for this bit.

I needed a round nose bit to make an architectural detail on a project for a client and this bit was perfect. I've used several different brands of router bits and the Whiteside brand has never let me down. This bit was no different. It had next day shipping so it was more economical to get it through Amazon than try and find one local then have to go pick it up. Great products and fast delivery makes Amazon my go to when I find myself needing a specific item quickly.

This is my first purchase of a Whiteside bit. I'm using it on my CNC to create bowls in ash and walnut. It can be a challenge choosing bits given the broad range of prices. You can easily spend a fortune on a high quality bit. Typically quality and price go hand in hand, but once in a while you find a product that hits the sweet spot and delivers on both. What I like:1. It's a carbide cutter and it leaves a smooth finish on softer hardwoods like ash.2. It's well balanced and has performed well at a range of speeds and feeds.3. It's a larger bit and can be run more aggressively to rough in the shapes.4. It arrived well packaged with it's edges protected.5. I've had no issues with corrosion on the bits during the wetter seasons. It took a minute to dial in the right settings, like any other new bit, but I'm planning to test more of the bits from Whiteside after my positive experience with these bits.

The generic bits with keyboard soup names are fine if you have to hog something out and don’t care what it looks like, or if you have time and ambition to spend cleaning it up. But if you need a good finish, Whiteside is among the best.

It is a good looking router bit I haven't been able to use it yet because of other projects I've got going on but it looks like it's built really well.

It seems like no matter how many router bits you have there's always another one you need for that special cut. Such was the case when I wanted to cut a relief on the underside of some slide-out shelves. I could have used a straight bit but then I wouldn't have the smooth and shapely curve that I wanted. A round-nose bit was the only thing I could use.Whiteside is my favorite router bit brand so I looked there first and of course found what I needed. Bit 1406 cuts a 3/8-inch radius on a 3/4-inch diameter and this makes a great size for finger holds. Whiteside packaged it in their regular envelope with protective goo around the cutting surface so the bit came to me intact.Usually I use 1/2" shank bits for their increased stability and strength, but sometimes those bits are too long and I can't set the cut depth shallow enough. Because of this I decided on shorter bit with a 1/4" shank. You can see my router setup in the accompanying photos. The workpiece is a double-stack of 3/4" MDF that I glued together and finish cut to size. For the finger-relief cut I made a couple stop blocks to limit the width of the relief and clamped them to the workpiece. I made the relief cut in several passes using my plunge router installed on an edge guide. The cuts came out clean and precise, just as you expect from a high-quality Whiteside bit.The other images show the shelf with the completed cut finished in sanding sealer, then all four shelves in gloss black paint. I'm using Blum slides with quick-release catches and you can see two of the shelves installed in the cabinet. The finger relief cuts I made with this Whiteside router bit make it easy and comfortable to pull the shelf out and even though you probably will never see them on the undersides of low shelves it is these sorts of details that make the difference between an OK piece and a great piece.Like all Whiteside bits, this one is made in USA.
