The Viltrox 40mm f/2.5 lens is a remarkable budget-friendly option with impressive image quality. Its corner-to-corner sharpness, minimal distortion, and excellent chromatic aberration control stand out, even at its widest aperture. The bokeh is pleasing, though not ultra-creamy, and lens flares are handled softly without overwhelming images.Build quality is lightweight yet sturdy, featuring a silent autofocus motor that works seamlessly with Sony’s eye/face detection. Autofocus performance is smooth and reliable, even during fast movements. While the f/2.5 aperture isn’t as competitive as f/1.8 options in this price range, the clean images and overall optical performance make it a strong contender for building an affordable, high-quality kit.For the price, this lens is a fantastic value for sharpness and versatility. Overall the body of the lens is lightweight as it is an almost complete plastic build, the only mental on the lens is the lens mount (which is the most important part). The lens hood is not the best but it does the job. The lens cap is very secure and have not had it fall off in my bag. The focus ring does feel a bit gritty, almost as if it is rubbing on the plastic beneath it. As for the image quality is falls right in line with the Sony 40mm f2.5. Center sharpness is great. Now there is some color fringing but you really need to zoom on to see it. There is a drastic price difference between the Sony and the Viltrox 40mm f2.5, and for the price you cannot beat the Viltrox. The autofocus performs well even in low light. It is able to switch distances quickly with very minimal focus hunting. I believe the Viltrox can do 85% of what the sony can, even though the build quality is not close.

This lens surprised me while shooting some portraits of my daughter. It’s not the best build quality being all plastic but the image quality was great for the price. I would recommend this for a new comer or someone with a lower budget. It’s well worth it.

I give this lens five stars for utter satisfaction with image quality; never mind its "plasticky" build, as that is a main reason why this lens is so inexpensive (another being its f/2.5 aperture). Great contrast, sharpness and color; minimal distortion. 40mm is great for those who find 50mm a bit too narrow. Good lens for casual, walking-around shooting and for video.

Arrived on time & well packed. Read some reviews and saw a video about this lens and wanted to geta new one without paying big money. So far I am very happy with the results. Light weight and affordable.

As a photographer, I have a multitude of lenses, but this one I saw available for a good deal and in all honesty, it’s not worth the money or the trouble. The image quality is lacking. It does not have any auto focus and just compared to my other lenses, it’s a joke.
