epakitin phosphate binder

VETOQUINOL EPAKITIN PHOSPHATE BINDER FOR CATS & DOGS – RENAL SUPPORT SUPPLEMENT POWDER

Vetoquinol Epakitin is a specially-formulated phosphate binder that naturally supports normal kidney function and health in dogs and cats. Our renal support dietary supplement contains high-quality chitosan – a natural polysaccharide derived from shrimp and crab shells – as well as calcium carbonate, lactose and hydrolyzed soy protein. Epakitin is a powder-based supplement that is great-tasting and easy to administer, especially when sprinkled over dry food or mixed with a small about of canned food.

Although renal diets can be effective in controlling phosphorus levels, they are often not enough to maintain adequate phosphate ranges. Epakitin is a phosphorus binder nutritional supplement that works to prevent your pet’s body from absorbing phosphorus from the food they eat. Our oral powder works to bind phosphates before they enter the blood and then transports them through the digestive tract where they are eliminated in the stool. When used in conjunction with renal diets, Epakitin phosphate binder may help to decrease serum phosphorus levels, as well as urea and creatinine levels, all in an aluminum hydroxide-free formula.

Vetoquinol is a proud member of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC), one of only a hundred animal supplement companies (out of thousands) to be so. To display the NASC Quality Seal on our products, we undergo regular and rigorous audits to ensure we’re manufacturing only the highest-quality nutritional supplements for your pets. We’re as passionate about your pet’s health as you are!

how epakitin works

Epakitin Encourages Phosphate Elimination

Renal diets are a great start but, in some cases, may not be enough. Epakitin is an oral powder nutritional supplement that works to help prevent your pet’s body from absorbing phosphorus from the food they eat. When used in conjunction with renal diets, our phosphate binder may help to decrease serum phosphorus levels, as well as urea and creatinine levels.

  • Binds phosphates before they enter the blood
  • Carries phosphates through the digestive tract
  • Phosphates are eliminated in the stool

for dogs and cats

Ideal for Dogs and Cats

As our pets age, kidney issues frequently develop and can be a leading cause of death if left untreated. Kidney issues are often exacerbated by phosphorus (phosphates) found in many common dog and cat foods. Vetoquinol Epakitin works to bind phosphates before they enter the blood and need to be filtered by your pet’s kidneys.

safe for combined use

Used with Other Products

Renal diets are often effective in controlling phosphorus levels, but they are typically not enough to maintain consistent ranges. Epakitin can be used with other renal support supplements and diets, and works to prevent your pet’s body from absorbing phosphorus by binding it together, transporting it through the digestive tract and intestines until it they are eliminated in your pet’s stool.

wet or dry food

Add to Wet or Dry Food

Epakitin comes in a highly palatable oral powder that can easily be administered by sprinkling over dry food or mixing with a small amount of canned food. Be sure to allow your pet to have access to water at all times during supplementation, as a natural, balanced diet and plenty of water are important for renal care.

When I found out my cat has hyperthyroid and kidney failure (surprisingly common for housecats), I quickly did some research to find out how to help him. I discovered Epakitin and it has really been a game changer for my cat. He is able to eat wet food again without throwing it up, and while he will probably never gain back all the weight he lost, he at least stopped drastically losing weight. I know there's no cure for his kidneys but at least I don't have to watch him starve because he can't keep food down. Epakitin works by binding phosphates to it so the body doesn't absorb them, making it easier for kideny function. The directions on the bottle are clear for dosage, and it is easy to administer to my cat through his wet food each time I feed him.

Our 13 1/2 year old cat suffered a horrible seizure on June 23, 2014. The vet diagnosed him with a heart mummer and the beginning stages of renal failure. She put in on aspirin (a HUGE mistake because it made him SO sick and he had blood in his stool) and she changed his diet to Hills KD wet food, which he refused to eat. 3 weeks later, he was in what seemed to be complete renal failure and on death's doorstep. The vet wanted to put him down. I refused and told her to test his urine sample for an infection, which I brought in on my own for her to test. She fought me tooth and nail but finally gave in. Turns out, I was right. He had a horrible urinary tract infection. He also had high blood pressure which she had failed to initially diagnose so she put him on a daily dose of an ace inhibitor. She put him on antibiotics for the UTI and he did improve but was still very ill. After four rounds of antibiotics and a new vet, I read the post about the Ubiquinol CoQ10 under this Epakitin review. I purchased them both. The turn around was almost immediate. His appetite came roaring back and I started him on Earth's Best organic baby food (2 flavors... Vegetable Turkey Dinner and Sweet Potatoes which he eats constantly... BUT PLEASE NOTE: Be very careful of ingredients which are toxic for cats like onions, garlic and apricots) along with a morning meal of Boar's Head honey maple turkey. Our wonderful new vet isn't thrilled with his diet but she has to admit he is doing great so she says to keep doing what works. She gives him the 100ml. of Sub Q fluids once a week for free via a "tech appointment" with the fluids I purchase. I am delighted to say he is doing FABULOUS! His weight went from 3.6 lbs to 4.8 lbs since the beginning of August. His leg strength is almost completely back. He has mostly good days now but does need daily loving care. I sprinkle a little of the Epakitin in every serving of his baby food along with a pinch of MiraLAX which was recommended by the vet. I give him a small drop of Ubiquinol on his lip at night along with his blood pressure med. Overall, it's a combination of regular vet medication and care along with alternative supplements and lots of love. If your cat is in renal failure, please try the Epatikin and CoQ10 along with organic baby food. I hope this helps other kitties and their families who love them.
