Your cart is empty.PEAK Atlas ESR70 (ESR PLUS) (Equivalent Series Resistance) Capacitor Analyzer with audible alerts. This new model introduces new features including "Audible Alerts" and enhanced measurement range. Every measurement of ESR will be shown on the display as usual of course, but the unit will also produce a variety of tones depending on the value of ESR. And the tones themselves are surprising pleasant, including "Bell-like" pings (a couple of different types for ESR that is below certain values), and also a "Beep-Barp" type tone for ESR that is likely to be too high. There is also a reassuring "Blip" when the measurement has started and completed. The ESR measurement range has also been enhanced, now doubled, measuring from 0 to 40 ohms with a resolution as low as 0.01 ohms. This remarkably fine resolution is great for assessing large capacitors and even allows you to use the Atlas ESR+ for tracing short-circuits and finding the precise area of a PCB that has that invisible wisp of solder. Measuring a capacitor's ESR (equivalent series resistance) is a great indicator of capacitor condition. The Atlas ESR70 PLUS offers instant results, if the instrument is switched on then just connect the probes to your capacitor and the analysis starts automatically. You can even use the Atlas ESR70 PLUS in-circuit, saving you the trouble of removing capacitors. When testing capacitors out-of-circuit, the unit will also display the capacitance.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this unit is far superior to the Chinese made unit for around $60. Just moving the capacitor with the leads attached made the ESR change tenfold. That meter did not give me the same reading when I checked the same capacitor several times in a row. It also did not hold zero each time. This meter, on the other hand, was made in England and is very consistent giving the same ESR every time and the capacitance on a 1300 uf capacitor just one or two uf difference at the most.

I bought this back in 2012, and although I've rarely needed it, my ESR70 has more than paid for itself. It helped me find failed capacitors in two of my LCD flatscreen TVs, and just now in an arcade cabinet screen, letting me replace the failed component rather than the entire unit. The price has only gone up $10 since 2012, which strikes me as extremely reasonable compared to most other items.

Results check out comparing new to old caps. I have yet to do technical/scientific testing against a scope and a calculator but generally I'm confident in the readouts.

I am so tired of cheap Chinese garbage everywhere. Nothing works. Bought some ESR, paid 60$, measure same capacitor 3 times - each time different reading. Returned - this thing is awesome. It not only made in England, it actually works. Same capacitor shows the same uF and ESR even if you measure it 20 times. It discharges capacitors automatically, it shows you capacitance and ESR, it shows when capacitor is shorted, it has long nice alligator probes and they can be removed and used with something else. Well worth the money.

I rarely write reviews unless a product totally needs recognition. This is the best Capacitor ESR meter that I have used. Truly saves you time by implementing in circuit testing. I have tried many Chinese capacitance testers and got fed up with the false data they presented so I broke the bank and bought this. Can’t say it was a bad purchase because it totally changed my life. I have cut my trouble shooting to 1/4 the time by having a unit that accurately tests in circuit. No more desoldering capacitors to test them. On rare occasions only you might have to lift a led to test. Simply accurate in every way. The best part is it discharges a capacitor before testing. This unit is a must for bench techs everywhere. Yea I know it is not cheap but I would not waste time with a review if it was useless like the TC1.

Excellent design and accuracy. Super user friendly and saves battery. Old electronics use a lot of caps under 1uF, so the only con is it doesn't test under 1uF caps, hence the 4 star rating. The alligator clips are good quality. If you need different leads you need a female mini banana jack for the probes. I think it's 2mm.
