I received this unit and compared to an Apogee 510. It showed 200 less PAR consistently when compared. Not to mention I received a used unit. All the wrapping was gone, the batteries were already installed, and it was showing the correct date. Will definately be returning. Does not live up to a lot of good reviews I had read.

Knowing your tank's PAR values is critical for successfully running a reef tank. That said, most of them are ridiculously expensive, and something reefers usually don't need on a regular basis. This one has its drawbacks (mainly the telescoping arm that holds water), but it still gets the job done at a price most hobbyists can afford. I found it to be a great tool in establishing the different PAR values in my reef, and was able to bump my lighting up enough to truly grow SPS as a result. Get it!

works great, easy to use, love everything about it. if i had a complaint, its kinda annoying waiting for the water to leave the rod. but its a minor inconvenience.

I purchased this meter but I’m not sure if I got a defective one or not by reading these reviews. But mine the readings compared to the one at my LFS were way off in readings and the extension rod fills up with water and makes a big mess. Need one but don’t know. Should I give this a try again?

Great simple PAR meter. The only bad thing is the telescoping rod fills with water. you have to wait a bit for it to drain.Found it to be as accurate as some I have rented. A must for any reef tank owner.

Le VBR-Aqua PAR Mètre est un outil bien pratique pour maîtriser l'art de l'éclairage de notre aquarium. Avant son utilisation, je ne pouvais pas connaître le ratio idéal rouge/bleu pour la croissance des plantes. Cet appareil m'a permis de le mesurer et de l'ajuster finement, favorisant ainsi des conditions optimales.Facile à utiliser, il suffit de placer le capteur étanche sous l'eau et de lire les valeurs PAR sur l'écran LCD. Son manche télescopique permet d'accéder à tous les recoins de l'aquarium.J'apprécie également sa fonction d'enregistrement des données, qui me permet de suivre l'évolution de l'éclairage au fil du temps.Polyvalent, le VBR-Aqua PAR Mètre peut être utilisé aussi bien en eau douce qu'en eau marine.Malgré un léger défaut - le manche télescopique se remplit d'eau - cet outil reste un investissement judicieux.Je le recommande donc à tous les aquariophiles soucieux d'offrir à leurs plantes un éclairage adapté à leurs besoins.

**Edit**VBR has changed the sensor to a more opaque version. This new version reads lower than the sensor I have. Check the pic with two sensors. If you receive your meter with the sensor that looks like the one on top, multiply your readings by 1.17. That will get you Apogee-aligned results. If you have the sensor on the bottom, do not use the multiplier.The VBR-Aqua matches the readings of the significantly more expensive Apogee 500-series PAR meters and it does so for much less money. If considering the PARwise (reads 20% low), the Apogee (expensive), or the VBR, consider the VBR your #1. It really is that good.Stop sending them back after using them! Keep it and share it with your reefing friends.Word of caution...I would not use the telescoping rod. You don't know what's going to live inside the telescoping sections. Get yourself an acrylic rod.I paid full price. This is an unsponsored review.

The par meter is easy to use and i like that it measures the different colors of light. Compared to other aquarium meter prices it is a great value. I did not try to save previous readings or even set the date but it gives me an easy to read par quickly which it what i need. You can plug it in but i just use the included batteries. The back lit screen and large display are really nice features. The pole handle telescopes about three feed and makes getting a reading on the bottom of the tank easy. i do not have another meter to compare how accurate it is with but In my opinion its a nice par meter with several nice features.
