It can measure UVA and UVB light (but not UVC) and calculate their indexes during days of intense sunlight radiation.
The UV index reading allows user to determine with accuracy the potential level of harmful ultraviolet light exposure,and to take appropriate steps of avoidance or protection from sunlight when the index is too high.

HOW TO CHECK UV INDEX?
Press the “UV Check” button to read the index by pointing the UV sensor directly toward the sun. LCD display shows the UV index reading.
NOTE!
The measure taken will be inaccurate when the sunlight is not fully covered the UV sensor!

Easy to use meter allowed us to immediately test our car windows for UVA and UVB rays. All windows (except the rear window over the trunk) let in NO UV rays. UVB rays are linked to about 90% of skin cancers. Our car does have infra-red ray penetration through all windows in the from of heat.Note: Our former car did have some UV rays going through the glass.

This item was crap. Did not work, even under under the high out t5 10.0 uvb light in the bearded dragon's tank.

So I git this to help keep and eye on my reptile habitat uv levels. Well it only works with one light( I know the others are good). You have to be up close to try and use it and if you are not dead center it doesn't pick up. I have 4 lights and only one is emitting uv rays I doubt it.
